Spring Thaw was the first wolf to be introduced to the pact after the Withering. They traded some pinecones with her old pack as an offering to persuade her to join. Sagnant, the leader, assured her she wouldn't be needed in there as much as they needed her. One look at the pair and it became obvious that they would struggle to survive if they couldn't gather enough food for the winter.
The three of them did well enough on their own; Meirchion was nice enough but his eyes were filled with regret and resignation.
She asked once if it had always been the two of them. The cave fell silent. Sagnant growled at her, warning her to never ask about the Before times. Meirchion just looked down, hoping for the tension to dissipate. Later that night, Sagnant apologized and begged Spring Thaw to not bring out questions about the past of the pack, as they were trying to deal with the grief the events that lead to their current situation was too much to bear.
Spring Thaw knew that wasn't the whole reason why their leader wanted her to remain silent, but under the glow of the moon, she noticed the red in that wolf's fur was not natural and decided it was best for her not to get on Sagnant's nerves.
