She glances over her shoulder. She's not supposed to leave the camp outside of training, but she's already seven months old, so what's the harm? She can take care of herself; Neirith trained her to be witty in the face of adversity, after all.
Favir rises from her belly and edges her way, as casually as possible, towards the break in the bushes that line the camp. Beyond that, she knows she must be careful of the dip in the ground. If she trips, someone will hear her. Before she knows it, she's out in the forest, all by herself, and she shivers with excitement.
There are so many new sights and smells! The birds perched in the trees look at her with cocked heads, and she knows she cannot hunt them from down here, so she simply smiles back.
"Where do you think you're going?"
Favir flinches, spinning around to face the voice. Her mother stares down at her with a sour expression... Favir hadn't even heard her approach! "I wanted to see the forest, since I'm bigger now," says Favir with confidence, straightening despite Pheonix's withering glare.
"Oh, really? I suppose you'd be all good to look after yourself if a stranger picked you for an easy meal," Pheonix rolls her eyes and before Favir can react, she's being cuffed over the back of the head -- a familiar sensation, really. Pheonix turns and gestures with a tilt of her head towards the camp. "How many times do I have to tell you not to wander off? You're turning my fur grey!"
Favir tries not to huff as she sluggishly makes her way back to camp, the walk of shame through the bushes. Adiris is snickering -- her witchy sister, always something to say, that one -- but at least Jahzie looks sympathetic.
Maybe next time, Favir thinks to herself, casting a forlorn glance at the forest she feels like she'll never get to explore.
