"I see the Canghenau party has come back empty-pawed," Lucan comments, approaching Adiris with that snotty look on his face that means he intends to cause trouble. "Did Jahzie miss the signal again? A shame."
"Would you leave Jahzie alone?" Adiris growls, shifting in her little patch of grass so that her frustrating little brother isn't taking up so much of her vision. "Ever since he and Favir bonded, you've been walking around like there's a stick up your arse. Jahzie was on his mark, it was me who made the mistake... Since you must know."
"I couldn't care less who Favir spouts her idiocy to in her spare time--"
"Watch yourself, Lucan," Adiris is quick to her paws, standing in Lucan's space and staring down her nose at him. "She's my sister. She's your sister too, not that you seem to care any, you narcissistic bastard." She makes to bypass him, but it seems he's not done yet.
"Well," he huffs over his shoulder at her, "You dropped the ball again, Adiris. What'd you do this time? Outrun by a doe? Outsmarted by a boar?"
Adiris manages to ignore the bait and answers truthfully. "I got confused and when I tried to right my path, I tripped," Her whole body tenses up in preparation for Lucan's response, but she has to persevere -- this is an important lesson she's trying to teach him. "Gwyn and Bajira weren't able to catch up from their marks to find the stag again."
A scoff. "Typical. Losing the prey is one thing, but I do have to question Sable's judgement when the chasers she assigns to hunting parties are tripping."
"It was a mistake, Lucan," growls Adiris, not even blessing him with eye-contact. "We all make them, it keeps us humble and on our toes, it helps us improve. You make them too, you know, it's just that your skull is too thick for you to actually learn from them. I'd work on that if you ever want a chance of getting assigned a hunting party, especially Canghennau."
