Biography

I could feel my age starting to get to me. I chose not to take on a pack name when I first got here as a stray almost eight years ago. It took a while for them to accept it, but eventually they did.
Sometimes I glanced around my pack and wondered if they could see how weak I was getting. Someone flopped down beside, resting their chin on their paws. Wingfur, my mate.
Wingfur removed himself from his deputy duties after a clash with a bear. He figured that when I passed, he wouldn't make a good leader if he was injured and limping around. I suppose it was time for him to retire soon.
"When are you gonna retire, Wingfur?" I asked him.
"When you move on to StarPack, Tacita," he responded. "Then I'll be depressed there."
"I wish our age wasn't so drastically different," I said. "And I'm glad you weren't from this pack originally. I don't think I could be your mate if I helped raise you."
"Blazeheart and Rainfur did it," Wingfur commented. "I miss him."
"Me too," I replied.
"Look at us," Wingfur said. "Just like two elders gossiping."
"You're not old, Wingfur."
"Feels like it," he said, stretching his injured hind leg out. "I wish I could still scout like I used to. I guess I could make myself purposeful by pup sitting."
"No, Wingfur. You hate sitting and watching. You could be a mentor. That wouldn't be too strenuous."
"Yeah, I guess. I'm not a very good teacher, though," he said.
"I can ask Tanfoot to put you with one of the laid back hunting parties," I replied. "You can be the stalker."
"Maybe," Wingfur said, setting his head back down on his paws.
"Wingfur..." I said. "Don't dwell on me leaving you behind. After I'm gone, I want you to be happy and find another mate."
"I'm not going to be able to," Wingfur replied.
"You have to try," I replied.

I blinked awake. Wasn't I just dead? I remember seeing Windstar. I remember talking to them. They told me I had died peacefully in my sleep. So why was I back in Blu Moon Pack? And why were they all staring at me as if they'd seen a ghost?
Probably because I was supposed to be dead.
My eyes flicked over the wolves standing beside the pack members. They were dead too, almost transparent. Rainfur, Sunfur, Sparrowtail, Fierceheart. They sat on their haunches and watched me with a smile.
Rainfur padded up to me and whispered, "You're an angel, Tacita. The Pack needed a protector."
I glanced up at her before turning back to the wolves. Stripedust's gaze was untrusting. I could see the slight bulge of her stomach. "Hello, Stripedust."
