He is a son of former chaser Hell's Angel. Hell had a dark, intimidating aura that unsettled the other wolves, though she performed perfectly as a chaser. Royale is able to relate more easily to others than her mother, but there's still something strange about him.

Blue Dream would never live to see his son take full responsibility as leader of the pack. But Sobranie had earned the respect of his pack members over time by acting with patience and temperance. In his old age, he was a calm, grounded wolf, if a bit distant at times. It seemed certain that he would sire a strong heir, especially given his council of close female confidants.

Sadly his final year was marred by melancholy after his mate, True Romance, bred to another wolf for her final heat. Sobranie was appalled and desolate from what felt like the ultimate betrayal. True was quick to point out that he had many mates throughout his life, whereas she'd had only him; and besides, it was better to keep bloodlines in the pack diverse - so that his eventual heir would have strong mates to breed to himself. Technically, this logic made sense. But Sobranie could not accept it, and he fell into a deep depression.

His presence was rarely seen in his final weeks, which put great stress on the pack. And it was once again unclear who would take over as Alpha. True outlived her mate long enough to elevate Strawberry Cough - a controversial decision that embittered many old-guard wolves that detested the idea of anyone but a Lucky Strike descendant being leader. And so the divide between homebreds and outsiders widened further.

Strawberry quietly went about her duties while resentment festered. It seemed that little progress was being made, but in the shadows, Royale trained. He was not the strongest of Sobranie's crop, but he was perhaps the most dedicated and resourceful.

Strawberry would remain alpha until her natural death in late November of 2022. Despite ever-present tension, relations among the pack were quite peaceful during Strawberry's brief rule. She was rarely seen, except to manage necessary endeavors. This was perfectly acceptable to many of the pack wolves, who still resented her, but felt no need to cause further conflict. Besides - it was only a matter of time before one of Sobranie's sons would take over, as was their right.
