When Beetle agrees to leave Rielle's pack to help an ally, she can't have imagined the state of Birch's nursery before she sees it. And then, Rielle passes away. Horizon finds out from the medicine bear before he passes it on to Beetle.
The immediate next step she takes is to seek Birch and tell him to find Dusk, and ask for her personally to migrate. She doesn't distrust anywolf else to lead the Cinnamon Cinders pack, but she will never trust anyone as much as she trusted Rielle's capable paws, and her anxiety pushes her to secretly meet with Dusk the eve of her departure.
After some arrangements are made, Dusk brings Beetle's son, Waxwing, for Beetle can't bear to be separated from him any longer with the uncertainty of his success under the new Queen Marianna.
Waxwing's blood is strong. If he is successful here, Beetle knows he will enrich this pack's gene pool greatly. Waxwing is also resilient, and tends to spend more time with Beetle than with any pupsitter in the nursery. All the better, she thinks.

Two pups, Ember and Lichen, have aged into this hunting group and Beetle is so relieved that her hunting party has enough wolves. As the strongest in the party, Beetle is taking it upon herself to become the finisher of the group.
