When Marengo's eyes opened that morning, he had laid in his nest for many long, silent minutes. Despite his attempts to calm himself as he lay there, his breathing was still unsteady. His hackles were still standing on end.
'Was it real?' He wondered, even though in his heart, he knew the answer. 'Am I… different, now…?'
When he finally gathered his courage and rose from his nest of moss, he walked with trembling legs towards the odd piece of reflective human junk his pups, Blue and Fern, had once brought him, many moons ago.
And when his eyes landed on his reflection, he let out a distraught bark. He had indeed been Changed by the Great Wolf.
Where once his pelt had been a fitting marengo-gray, it now shimmered odd blue and purple hues. His eyes, once olive in shade, now shone with an unnatural gray shimmer.
He has seen many wolves come and go in his time. Rush Water… Bear Pelt.. Sage Leaf, his mate. His pups, Ice and Fern. In his state of shock, he wonders briefly if any of them would recognize him, should they ever return…
