You hear joyful barking and growling as you approach a small group of adolescent wolves.
"Hey, don't touch that!" an older, cream colored wolf suddenly interjects, and the adolescents immediately freeze in place. "Don't play with those feathers! Autumn Sage wants them to remain intact."
"Understood!" one of the adolescents barks back, before happily trotting away with his friends.
"Are you another pupsitter?" you ask the older wolf, to which he nods.
"Yes, my name is Summery Sandstorm. I'm sorry this had to be my first impression of you."
He careful takes the colorful feathers in his mouth, carrying them over to a small pile in a cave.
"I'm usually much more open to antics like this, but our alpha Autumn Sage has clearly stated she wants these feathers as decoration-"
The wolf speaks fast, almost stumbling over his own words, before he finally turns back to you with a smile. "I heard you're a traveler passing by. Why don't you stay here?"
"I have my own pack at home," you reply, to which he nods.
"I understand. Is it far from here? Beyond the mountains?"
"Beyond the mountains and farther."
"That's sad, I would've loved to meet another pack. It can get pretty lonely in these woods, as safe as they are. The only wolves passing by are travelers like you, or lost, young puppies. I care a lot for both. Most puppies of this pack aren't our own... we've taken them in to give them a home until they're old enough. Some choose to stay forever."
He looks off into the distance, shuffling his front paws in the grass in front of him.
"If you or any wolf you know ever needs a place to stay, please don't hesitate to come to us."
