Poppy is a very anxious girl. She can't see herself standing up to any large prey, or exploring distant lands. She's terrified of dying.
Still, Rosary has singled her out as the strongest wolf, of her generation at least, and has requested her specifically for training. She's insistent on staying in the den and watching pups, but her friends tell her she's lucky to be selected for the Hunger's Maw. Maybe she can train an even stronger, better puppy, and finally nest with a litter of her own one day...

Finishing prey in a hunting party is nerve wracking. The yelps of the tired beasts, the excitement of Finch as he runs wildly behind and beside her, the terrifying moment when prey turns around and fights for its life. Rosary is a very good teacher and an even better leader, but she wonders if her heart will beat so fast that it will burst out of her throat one day.
Poppy dreams of the innocent she's taken.
Her heat comes on during the first hunt she finishes for, and it's maddening. She smells different and the other wolves definitely notice. She may as well have a label floating below her face at all times: This wolf is in heat!
