Chordeilinae is a subfamily from the higher classification of Nightjar. This wolf doesn't look like his namesake.
In WolfQuest, Sunny (my wolf) and Magpie (Sunny's first mate) had Nighthawk, Cowbird, and Kingfisher. I decided to name the gray and black pup after the night to go with his father's name, but also keep the bird theme passed down from their mother. "Nighthawk" seemed to be the best name.
The two subspecies of nighthawk that are most well-known are the common nighthawk (Chordeiles minor) and the lesser nighthawk (Chordeiles acutipennis).
