!!THIS BIO IS A WIP!!
Almost everyone who has met Solas would describe him just as his name implies- a bundle of energy that burns as bright as the sun. Always joking around and working to put a smile on every face he comes in contact with, many wolves would never guess the hardships and horrors that he has been through.
Born to a pack that honored strength and strength alone, Solas was forced into a life of bloodshed from the moment he came into this world. He was the son of the alpha and biggest of his litter-the pup every wolf in the pack had hopes for. The alpha was growing older, and as such, was looking for a successor. Solas was his pride and joy...and the subject of his anger.
His father, Oblivion, was ruthless in his training, not afraid to harm him in their practice. It wasn't uncommon for Solas to be left beaten and bloody at the end of the day, even in his puphood. His only comfort was returning to his family den in the evening, where his mother and sister- Celeste and Solstice- would help him tend to his wounds.
He forged a close kinship with his sister during these evenings. Her time spent pressed against his side as comfort meant the world to him, and as her big brother, he vowed to protect her. Any wolf to do her harm would meet the end by Solas' own claws.
As the two of them grew, it was clear that they were taken by two very separate paths. Fueled by his hatred, Solas became the ruthless killer that his father had conditioned him to me. His sister followed the steps of their mother, learning to heal instead of maim. When their mother died they found that, despite their differences, it was eachother who they turned to for support.
Their father, in all his bitterness, grew worse at the loss of his mate. No longer having the voice of reason he so desperately needed by his side, he grew to be a cruel, tyrannical leader. Any wolf to step out of line was viciously beaten or killed. Solas became the outlet for all of his fathers anger, earning permanent scars that would forever mar him forever.
Even with his Oblivion's madness, Solas remained loyal to his father. It was all he had ever known apart his brief respites with the rest of his family, and he had grown used to the pain. He would follow his father's instructions blindly, fulfilling the horrendous tasks he would set out for him.
He would deliver the punishment for stepping out of line- he would be the one to take away pups and leave them to die, he would be the one to slash the throat of all who dared speak out. Disgusted by his blind faith, Solstice all but disowned him, refusing to speak with him at all. Having lost everyone that kept him grounded, Solas spiraled out of control.
The three moon cycles that followed were all but a blur to him. All he can remember is the feeling of blood staining his paws, his outbursts of anger more frequent and dangerous. His father was growing older still, and with it, he weakened. More time was spent sitting in the healers den than leading, and everyone was preparing for the inevitable- a new leader. A power that Solas dreaded.
His training now but only the past, Solas was allowed something he hadn't been allowed for the first two years of his life; he was allowed to think for himself. He spent more time watching the pack that had grown to fear him and his father, spent more time watching as Solstice cared for others with his mother's meticulous love. Within him grew a guilt that would plague him all night and day, a feeling only beaten by the terror installed in him by his father.
He would still listen to every command he'd give, yet now he would hesitate. He would give less harsh punishments, save those he was meant to kill. He began to change in a way he thought he never could, and it all built up until that one, faithful day.
It was discovered by Oblivion that Solstice was expecting pups, something not only forbidden for healers, but forbidden for any female unless sired by him. She had been meeting with a rogue wolf for the past several cycles, and was planning to run away with him and start a pack of their own. Oblivion was furious, calling a pack meeting for all to watch her punishment.
For the first time in what felt like forever, Solstice came to Solas. Like she had so many cycles before, he pressed against her side in comfort. He listened to her story, filled with a love he could never imagine experiencing, and as he did the promise that he made rang true in his mind- he would protect her. No matter what.
The day of the trial came, and despite his sickly demeanor, Oblivion came to stand before the crowd. Two guards dragged Solstice to stand before him by the scruff, the sound of her whimpers sending every stand of fur on Solas' pelt prickling. Oblivion snarled his accusation, coughing between every bought of words. Solas listened as she was berated by him and shamed, every muscle tense as he waited for the worst- her punishment.
Having finished speaking, Oblivion turned to Solas. He spoke, and for a moment, Solas' couldn't believe his ears. The words that left his father's mouth hit him like a claw to the face, his blood running cold.
"Kill her."
The whole world seemed to stand still. It was as if every member of the pack had suddenly held their breath, everyone waiting for what was to come- everyone waiting for him to act. Solas stared into the burning ember of his father's eyes, and said something he had never said before.
"No."
The words hung in the air, a beat of silence passing after them. Oblivion sat in shock for a moment before a snarl slashed across his face, lips peeled back to reveal stained yellow teeth.
"Kill her!"
"No." Solas replied, his voice a low growl. He could feel the eyes of every wolf on him, feel their stares dig into his skin, but he didn't care. Now was the time to stand. Now was the time for this to end.
"If you won't, I'll do it myself!"
Oblivion turned towards Solstice with a fury of which Solas had never seen. Solas barely had the time to cry out before his father had leapt forward, latching his teeth upon Solstice's throat. The world bled black, and Solas had not even known he was moving until he could feel his body slam into his father. Oblivion failed beneath him, snapping and trying to force him off, but Solas was exactly what he had trained him to be. His paws came to pin him upon the ground, his own teeth hovering just above his father's jugular, heaving pants of breath leaving him.
He didn't dare spare a glance back at where he knew his sister lay. He didn't dare make any move at all. His father's croaking laugh is what startled him from his stupor, another growl leaving him as he pressed harder against where he had him pinned.
"So this is how it ends?" He said, and when Solas didn't reply, he continued. "Killed by my own weakling of a son?"
"I'm not weak." Came Solas' reply, a quiet whisper, hardly more than a breath.
Another howl of laughter left Oblivion, broken off by a round of coughs .
"Pathetic."
Solas had just opened his mouth to respond when he suddenly found himself being dragged back, the two guards from before hauling him off of his father. With a snarl he turned on to the one to his left, claws coming to slash across his eyes. Yet even with his strength he knew he couldn't take two wolves. His eyes scan the area to find where his sister lay, still. Unknowing of what else to do, he fled, the calls of his father echoing after him.
"A coward! Nothing more than a coward!"
It was from there that Solas vowed he was never to kill another wolf again. He refused to fall into the same pawprints of his father, who he could only hope died shortly after he ran. He vowed to be just like Solstice and Celeste, spreading love and joy wherever he goes. He spent a few cycles on his own until he stumbled into the Deciduous Forest. It was there he met the Spirits, a pack dedicated to second chances.
Solas still deals with the guilt of his actions every day. There are times he still loses his temper, and there are days he hides himself away from all. But with the pack, he is learning to discover the true him, not the beast that his father had created.
He's happy. Something he never thought he would be.
