River Runner

River Runner hasn't always been known as River Runner. He was once Small Speck, a lonely runt, the smallest of a litter of 5. His siblings always teased him, and his father, Gray Falcon, never liked him; always thought he would grow up to be nothing but deadweight. He looked mostly like his father, but he got his yellow eyes from his mother. His mother, Sweet Briar, always believed in him. She always told him he would do something great one day.
At about a year old, he really showed himself in his pack, but not in the best ways. He was being bullied, so he picked fights with the bullies. He grew tough through resilience. No wolf in the pack wanted around him.
Then, on patrol one day, he picked the fight with the wrong wolf from a different pack - the leader's son. Both fought, and they fought hard, but River Runner was victorious - after killing the other wolf. He never intended to kill. He intended to get this wolf off of his territory, but all hell had broke loose. His father kicked him out of the pack, telling him he was a disgrace and to never show his face again.
River Runner stayed on the edge of the territory - by a river. He hid away from patrols and hunted for himself.
But, one day, a couple of pups left camp and went exploring. They went by the river, and were daring each other to do stupid things - jump to that stone, catch that fish. One pup lost his footing and fell in, being swept away. Luckily for that pup, River Runner had lived near by, and had heard his screams. He quickly leaped to the rescue, and pulled the pup out of the water.
The pup was quite weak after his fall, and his friends had already run way to camp, so River Runner carried the pup back home.
When he showed up to the entrance, he was first met with hostility, then pure happiness. Everyone called him a hero for saving the pup.
His father came up to him and invited him to rejoin the pack. "We all missed you," he had said.
But River Runner shook his head. "I'm better off with a different family - one who won't shun me away because of a mistake. I may visit, but I know I will never belong here."
His father nodded, but said, "Very well. But from here forward, you shall be known as River Runner, the wolf who dared the rivers to save a pup from a pack that abandoned him. We will honor you, but you may leave if you want."
River Runner left. He has never returned back to his family. But he started one of his own - right here.

River Runner watches you walk in, a look of kindness on his face as he sits on a small ledge. "Greetings," he said. "What do you need?"
