Orka was the third most recent outsider to join the pack before Senha and Kimali. He didn't face the same hardships as older outsiders like Dara, but he had more than his fair share of dirty looks and snide remarks.
He was spiteful in his earlier days of Hematite Pride, but he grew to love his new home. He appreciated the ones who greeted him with open arms and brawled with the ones who didn't. Oleander found his downright blind confidence extremely amusing and welcomed him fully as one of her own.
Many of his packmates questioned Oleander's decision when she chose Orka as their first Fero. Sure, he has quite the fighting spirit and nobody can deny his strength, but he's also quite the soft-hearted romantic. He was a Gelo, not a Fero. The Bassinet is a place of freedom and relaxation, so it's no surprise that everyone's inner self comes out there. Every Gelo has their fair share of softness, it's why they're such a good pair with the pups, but there's a reason they aren't warriors.
Oleander disagrees. Her first love was an extremely successful Fero with a mellow heart. She argues that anyone can be vicious and vile if they're fighting for what they love. Orka is her perfect choice because she knows that he is devoted to her pack. Nobody could argue.
In the hectic days of getting adjusted to his new position and migrating to the Uneasy Overlook, there was a very special Verene that caught his eye. He'd seen her around The Bassinet before with the pups on her days off, but he didn't pay her much mind. However, it was hard to miss her sheen pelt under the midday sun as she helped him get adjusted to living alone. Snow was her name, and he found himself constantly making a fool of himself in front of her. She never minded.
