The pack had really old fashioned views anyway especially regarding how lower ranks should be treated, no better then man.
Beta went with Apollo, more or less agreeing with Apollo on the packs values, Beta is still working on changing his own name but wants to find his just as Apollo found his.
Not that two of them realises but they left their pack just in time when the environment around every creature as we know it turned against them.
