Evergreen is a born and raised forest wolf. Her family pack was devastated by hunger the last winter, the majority of her kin having dark coats that were incompatible with the stark white snow that Winter had shed off her coat. By the time Spring had come and gone, Evergreen's pack was significantly smaller. She chose to part ways with them when she spotted the first forest leaves changing colors. Her first encounter with Birch intrigued her- she hadn't spotted a southern wolf this far north in a while.
Evergreen breathed in deeply through her nose, snout held high in the air. She could smell a stranger- someone not native to the forest. Her haunches bristled and she stood still. Sure enough, a smaller sized female wolf cantered into the clearing. The strangers coat shone in the sun, the same color as the towering birch trees that surrounded the two. She spotted Evergreen and briefly tensed before relaxing her tail.
"Hello! I don't mean to disturb you; I'm just scouting out the territory." she spoke into the clearing. Evergreen relaxed slightly at the stranger's friendliness. "It's no problem to me. Just haven't seen you around before." she said.
Birch wagged her tail and took a seat on the fallen leaves. "You don't seem to have family nearby, am I correct?" she said, not unkindly. Evergreen bristled slightly at the comment. Seeing that she took offense, Birch quickly explained. "I don't mean offense- It's just that I'm working on establishing a pack and if you're alone here we would love to have you." At the mention of Birch's pack, she seemed to sit straighter and met Evergreen's eyes with a cool confidence.
With memories of Evergreen's kin fresh in her mind, she quietly agreed to join Birch. With Birch in the lead, the two trotted deeper into the forest to begin a new start.
