"I'd heard whispers from other packs, of pups that didn't come out quite right.
Faces born mashed in, nostrils closed and jaw short, choking the lungs beneath;
Destined for a slow, cruel, and early death.
But I refuse to let even one of my pack's young suffer such a fate.
Even though I am now old, and my womb has run dry,
My fur has been lined with silver, and my teeth have become blunt,
I am not so old and senile as to make the same mistake as my great grandmother, as our packleader before me.
I believe that this pup is a manifestation of our past leader's sins;
For the crime she committed to end the terror known as Coigreach.
I fear that I am too old to finish atoning for Honeyed Teeth's sins,
And that the responsibility will carry unto my own daughter,
When I am dead and gone,
And she must take the mantle instead.
But still, with every ounce of strength that remains in these old bones,
For the sake of this pup, which may very well hold the soul of the young one that was sacrificed,
I will see to it that this pup survives.
May she be a testament to our longing for redemption."
