Biography
"But it wasn't my fault..."
It was never their intention to hurt so many. When their powers came in and their... sidekick, Mori, appeared... their life changed. They weren't exactly your stereotypical wolf, nor was their birth pack. It was a small, mentally tormented pack on the fringes. They made their home in the carved out edge of a mountain where they could dabble in sacrifice, cryptozoology, monsters... you name it. Most days, the ground was soaked in blood and pelts and pieces of prey. Their mother had them with a vile beast from the mountains, or so she said, hoping her contribution to the world would be a monster... and that's what she got.
When the blood moon rose, so did the wings and the horns. Mori materialized in the darkness, his red eyes matching the red of the moon. They echoed one another. He would do the bidding of the wolf and torture those who tortured them since birth... When wolves would pick on his genderless being, the tiny growths on his forehead, when they would poke and prod him to take blood for more of their wicked schemes. The pack was wiped out that night, before the moon even set.
The next morning, the nearby pack's leader Nerv would find them, collapsed some distance from their old territory. Nerv found what they did, the bloodied remains of almost 20 wolves, so the cryptid wolf decided to lock up this other evil entity below an ancient tree on the edge of his pack territory. The badger-based male would go back and pry him about the supposed magic, spells, immortality... he knew none of it, but the old alpha thought he could torture it out of the young wolf anyway. Kyusaku would stay there until they was old enough to break his bonds, to call upon their companion Mori and storm the territory. Nerv was an easy target- his arrogance had gotten the better of him. Even emaciated, Kyusaku could tear him limb from limb.
Mori dematerialized, his presence wearing on the weak wolf. They began to limp towards... well, they didn't even know where they would go.
They awoke when bright yellow, harsh smelling liquid slipped along their tongue. They went to spit until a paw pressed their head down harshly to close their jaws. "It'll help you heal faster..." The voice was soft as new rose petals and quiet wind. They shivered and blinked their eyes up at the she-wolf. Her fur glowed of the morning sun they had ached to see for their entire life. Little dapples split up the color, and to their surprise, angelic markings that looked like wings sat upon her back... Quite like their own. She nodded, seemingly reading their thoughts.
She told them that one of the pack elders had told of the story Nerv told them once, but to their shame, they didn't realize the truth behind it and so the torture of the pup continued too long. No one had liked Nerv, and no one blamed Kyusaku. She had apologized on everyone's behalf. They didn't know what to say...
"You can tell me your name." They muttered it under their breath, and Sora as she introduced herself as, tried to repeat it. Her tongue twisted like kelp in a tsunami. She giggled, the laugh making their hair stand on end. It was the cutest noise, like a bubbling brook, happy and quiet.
"Can't I just call you Q?"
-----------
Q gained their strength day by day under the tender care of Sora. They learned so much of the pack, her family, her friends. They learned about true wolf life, and she allowed them to ask questions without judgement. Her answers were honest and never harsh. Their tail had even begun to wag every time she came to check on them, for the first time in their life. When his strength had returned, Mori was able to stay longer and longer. Sora was fascinated with the strange shadow creature, and Mori had licked her face on occasion to show his like of the female. The two had exited the small nook where Q had spent so long recovering... to a whole pack of wolves. Their heart raced. They knew they'd face the wrath of the wolves, the mocking, the prodding, the exile.. .and from his darling Sora. Their hackles began to rise until they felt her soft nose nudging his wing.
"We would like you to stay... You are the rightful alpha to this pack now, Q." They looked about the many colors, patterns, normal and seemingly abnormal wolves...the pups, the couples who stood close to each other... and then they looked at Sora. They had no idea what they were doing. But they would try their best... All they wanted was to call a place home.
---------------
A strong, healthy, motivated male and a black hound/wolf shadow took the depressed, sad ruins of a pack that Nerv left and made it into a home. The males respected them and told them everything they knew. The females adored his shy, quiet nature and the older females doted on him like adoring mother hens. The pups liked playing with Mori and he often found the shadow playing hide and seek or tag with the youngsters. They looked at their reflection in the shimmering water of the lake by their pack. They still looked so different from all the other wolves... It was hard to believe they'd ever truly fit in anywhere. Like it was too good to be true. Kyu sighed, 'I just don't want to be an outcast, mistreated...'
A nose brought them from their memories, Sora cuddled up under his chin and they instinctively wrapped their wings around her pinkish form. She always knew when they were having a rough time, always knew how to comfort them. Their reflections molded together in the stirring water, like they had molded into this pack and how they molded them. Maybe they were a monster... but Q would happily be the monster protecting this pack for the rest of their life.
