Oakley

He's the son of Fire and Toothpick, and the brother of Spruce, Katniss, and Cress. Once he's been weaned he'll begin training with Clove to take up her role as a Scout.

On his first day of training, he was woken by Clove at the crack of dawn. He was excited to start his lessons and was happy to see that Alder would be joining as well. However, being forced to run a hundred laps around the den was not what he had in mind. "A scout must be fast, not just strong," Clove had told him.

On his fifth day of training, Oakley was sent to study herbs with his mom. She showed him which herbs were helpful and which ones were harmful. She then taught him how to make medicine, explaining what each herb was good for when combined with another. He had a feeling she had hoped he would take over her role when he grew up, but he couldn't help that Luna and Rowan had chosen him as a scout.

On his sixth day of training he, along with Oren, were picked up by Clove. This day she would show them many of the pathways within the forest that was their home. Oakley got excited when they neared the border of their territory, thinking that they would get to see what was beyond, sadly Clove explained that none of the pups would be allowed to venture beyond their borders until they were a year old and began their apprenticeship.

Oakley's last lesson before he would start his real apprenticeship with Clove was a game of hide and seek alongside Oren, Oliver, and Rowan. They would all hide and afterward get pointers from Rowan on how they could improve. He felt he did rather well, considering all the training he had already done with Clove. However, after one round Oren couldn't be found. As a future scout, he did everything he could to help Rowan find his fellow pack member but they were unsuccessful. Rowan then told him to run back to the den and fetch Oren's parents. The younger pup then came out and they were all informed that all pup lessons for the foreseeing future wouldn't be allowed to take place any further than smelling distance of the den. He was worried how this would impact his apprenticeship, but Luna reassured him that he would still get to train with Clove, they would just have to stick within the woods for now.

He was woken early in the morning by Clove, it was time for his first scouting mission. Due to the recent events, they couldn't leave the forest, but he still enjoyed his time with Clove who explained that they would mostly try to find herbs or other useful items. After a while his attention began to drift so Clove challenged him to a race to see who could get back to the den the fastest. Although Clove did end up winning, he could feel how much faster he had become.

On the morning that he turned one year old, Oakley took over the role of scout from Clove. He traveled north along with Howlite until he stopped to explore the Tundra, a place he had never been allowed to go as an adolescent, while Howlite continued further north still.
