Oxide

As you are exploring the den, you almost completely miss one pup sitting near the outskirts – whose rusty gray fur blends almost perfectly into the cave wall.

You pad closer, and notice that the pup appears transfixed on something. He is rapt, staring up at a stalactite, and watching as the cavewater drips slowly to the floor. Drip. Drip. Drip. The little pup does not even seem to notice your approach, until Crater sits down next to him. "What'cha doin, Ox?"

"Oh." Oxide jumps slightly, then smiles. "I'm just watching to try and see if I can figure out how the cave-icicles form. We were learning about erosion in class today. Did you know that water can change the shape of the landscape? I didn't know that. I want to watch and see if I can see it happening."

Oxide winces. "Sorry. I'm probably boring you, aren't I?"

Crater quickly tries to assure him otherwise, but it doesn't seem to do much good. The gloomy little pup looks like he came from the kind of place where he had been told to be quiet a few too many times. Crater nuzzles the pup affectionately, and then turns to you. Oh no. Now she's giving you the puppy-dog eyes.

"Me?" The puppy glances back, as though certain you must have been referring to someone else. But there are only empty cave walls behind him. He takes a deep breath and gives a little grin. "Wow. Okay. Thank you!"

Oxide walks next to the larger white wolf, which introduces herself as Miray. " It will be a lot different in my pack for you. The environment is pretty different. So that's something you will have to get used to. But I promise that everybody will help you..."

Oxide looks at Miray with big eyes. " A different environment?" Miray nods. Almost instantly Oxide burst out with a hundred questions. Miray laughs. "Be patient little one. You will see for yourself soon enough."

Miray leads Oxide into a coniferous forest. Oxide looks around with big eyes trying to see everything at once. Miray stops suddenly and looks at Oxide. " I also have something to tell you." Oxide looks at her with an interested face.

" You will meet four of my pack members. They will strongly resemble your father." Miray stops suddenly and smiles warmly. Oxide looks at the little clearing in front of them. Standing there are two adult wolves, watching him, and two puppies, which are playing with each other.

The liver-colored wolf steps forward. " I'm Fenrir and that's my sister Dawn." He points to the russet-colored wolf. " The little ones are her daughters, Flame and Resin. " Oxide looks at him clueless about what he wants from him. " You are Reaper's son, aren't you?" "Yes, I am" Oxide looks proud.

" So am I. " Fenrir stares at Oxide, waiting for a reaction. Oxide seems overwhelmed. " Oh by the great goddess, Fenrir!" Dawn pushes her brother a little. " You are overwhelming the little one"
She looks at him. " I'm Dawn, your half-sister and all you need to know at the moment is, that you're welcome." Resin and Flame jump onto Oxide and scream in unison " WELCOME TO THE FAMILY"
