Storm

Storm was born the weakest and smallest of his litter. To the relief of Daffodil, the herbalist, who had tried everything to save his life, he survived the first nightfall, then the next, and the next. As Storm grew bolder, he began to venture further and further from Sandy, his mother, even when the other stronger pups stayed closer.

One day, when Mud, the Leader of the Watch, passed by the River Cave and happened to find Ghost, Storm's pupsitter, unsuccessfully trying to find him, he joined the search party and found Storm on the edge of Tapeesa territory. Storm had slipped off a rock and fallen, breaking both his back legs.

Daffodil was of the opinion that the pack should feed Storm a lethal amount of poppy seeds - his death would be quick and painless - but at Mud's insistence she undertook the gruelling task of healing him.

As a result, Storm missed his youth: training and lessons with his siblings, going on adventures with the other adolescents, falling in love for the first time. Daffodil called it a miracle when Storm, at long last, took his first step on shaking legs. When finally he reached his adulthood, Storm had relearn how to run and jump again.

The bone never healed quite right, so Storm is slower than his peers, and the injury is always tender but especially on rainy or stormy days. Yet Mud, impressed by determination Storm had shown in discovering new methods of movement to make up for his disadvantage, managed to convince him to join the Watch and help find other puppies who might get lost the same way before such an accident happens.

Storm was named Watcher of the East by Mud a few months into his scouting journey, as the East Territories are the most calm and easy to traverse.
