Chrysus

Chyrsus is the first Alpha of the Aurelia pack.

He was born outside of a pack to an unknown father and a wandering mother. After his mother, Naru died, an adolescent Chrysus was badly injured trying to hunt on his own and collapsed.

When he opened his eyes he was somewhere else. Here, colourful glowing threads appeared, hovering in the air and stretching as far as his eyes could see. They all connected to form a single column of rope, made of thousands of the threads.

In front of this column, tending to the strings was a wolf. She radiated warmth and her pelt shone like the sun. When she turned her head to face him, he felt like he knew her.

"You may call me Desti, pup." Her eyes were closed, but she seemed to see right through him, everything that he was and would be. "I am the goddess of fate, and I have a proposition for you."

The goddess gestured down to his chest, where a single thin string connected him to the column. It was thinner than others he had seen, fainter. When he looked closely at where it touched his chest he could tell it was fraying, on the verge of snapping entirely.

"That thread represents your life, young one. It is thinner than others you have seen because you haven't lived very long. It is on the verge of snapping because you are on the verge of death." The goddess explained calmly, easily guessing his thoughts.

"Is that why I'm here? Because I'm about to die?"

Desti smiled. "No pup, you are here because you have a choice to make. You can die here, if that is what you wish. You won't have to suffer or struggle anymore. You can see your mother again, in my brother's garden. You will even get to see your father, finally know him outside of stories."

Chrysus' heart ached at the thought of his parents. His ears flattened against his head at the thought of more lonely days, trying to survive on his own.

He shook his head and dispelled his sadness. No, there was more to life, more it could offer him, and he would find it. "And option number two?"

"You go back to life and serve me by become my acolyte, a mortal blessed with a part of my abilities. In exchange I will give you what you have always desired." She replied.

"So," The goddess asked, "what will you choose?"

When Chyrsus awoke, he could see the golden threads of fortune and luck surrounding living beings, giving him the ability to tell when a being would have big or small moments of good/bad fortune.

In addition to his new abilities, butterflies, the symbol of Desti, seemed to follow him everywhere. He continued to survive on his own until he reached adulthood and was saved by a strange female wolf who's threads of fortune he couldn't see...
