Odin

Personality

Odin is a powerful wolf who is well-versed in healing both practical and magical. He lives in a comfortable healer's cave. It is filled with scrolls, and the ceiling is hidden by thick clusters of vines. It smells strongly of herbs, and many wolves find that just being inside it makes them feel more at ease.
He has a kind but firm approach to his healing. He's a good listener, and a comforting presence, but he can stand up to even the strongest wolf if they're threatening to walk on a still-healing leg.
Even though he's not hunting anymore, he lives vicariously through the stories of Earthshine's hunters. He sees them frequently, and lets them ramble on about their heroics as he treats their wounds.

Backstory

For most of his life, Odin trained to be a great hunter. In his old pack, he was on the team of chasers, surrounded by barking wolves and kicked by the heels of fleeing deer. When he was invited to Earthshine, it was assumed he would fall back into that role naturally. Their first winter as a pack was coming up, after all.
Vampire, however, had other ideas. And after listening to her speak for a few minutes too long, so did Odin.
"Don't you have another hunting team?" Odin asked Orion. Explaining why he'd like to join a different team had been difficult. Vampire was, after all, Orion's queen. He wouldn't take any disrespect to her, and he'd already been snapped at.
But Earthshine was a small pack in those days, and they had neither the wolves nor the need for a second hunting team. Orion suggested some minor Lunar magic to even out their differences, but Odin refused to change himself for anyone.
Apart from leaving the pack to continue on his journey, there was only one option. To quit hunting, and take on another role.
""The moon is with you," said Orion.
His eyes locked on the eye on Odin's forehead. It had been his third eye, before one of his eyes was ripped out in a fight. He was back down to a perfectly average amount of eyes, only one was positioned on his forehead.
Hunting had been strange after the loss of his eye. His depth perception was all off, and he had to rely on his sense of smell more. But strangest of all, sometimes he saw into another world, and he would be surrounded by the spirits of bounding deer and rabbits. It was so disorienting that it sometimes made him lose the prey.
Orion explained that the eye was a sign of the moon's favour. Lunar magic could flow through him freely, with the right training. And with that magic, as well as some knowledge of herbs and how to use them, he could heal.
"We are in need of a herbalist, if you are willing," he said.
Odin was taken aback by the offer, but it made him think of a quieter life. One where he could rest without his old injuries bothering him. The thought made the tensed muscles in his shoulders relax.
"And if I get bored of the quiet life of a healer?"
"Then an apprentice will be trained, and they will overtake your duties to allow you to return to hunting."
Odin agreed, and that night a ceremony was performed. He was officially welcomed to the pack, and presented to the moon as a new disciple. Herbert had joined the ceremony, and by the light of the moon he showed him how to mix his first medicine.
Odin never did take Orion up on his offer to return to hunting.
