her paw pads ached, scraped from the hard asphalt trail she had been following for weeks. occasionally, she had stopped to snatch up any rabbit that crossed her path and reveled in the small meal. the climate was getting colder the further she traveled, and her internal clock warned that winter would soon approach. if she did not find a pack to stay with, she'd be on her own in the cold. several sunrises of wandering later, she, reclined upon a rock overlooking a massive lake and licking the remnants of blood from her jaws, heard paw steps. her ears perked and she looked for the source. from the trees appeared a tall red he-wolf, several branches held in his maw. his pink-blue gaze alighted on her, and he carefully sat down the sticks.
"woah pretty lady," he joked, tail swaying slightly. "this is twisting night territory, don't you know?"
"oh, is it?" she replied with cool indifference. "perhaps you folk could shelter me for the winter? i'm good at watching pups."
"only if you help me carry this firewood. i'm a pyre in the depths, by the way. call me pyre."
"journey," she, whom's name was journey, offered, standing and looking at the pile of branches curiously. "firewood. . ? you raise flames here?"
"yea; staves off the cold. forgotten night, our leader, was quite apprehensive at first but i showed him that the flame could be contained." pyre smiled that charming, confident smile of his. "come on, we ought not waste time." he picked up a mouthful of branches, and journey did the same. together, the walk to the camp was much easier.

at the camp, journey left the sticks in front of the fire-den which pyre disappeared inside of, supposedly to tend to the flames. she got to meeting the rest of the pack; forgotten night, their leader, winterfell, the head scout, the hunters, and all the pups. one lady stood out; prisonin, a beautiful, snarky finisher with dangerous green eyes. journey spent most of her time with her, learning about the strange fire-worshipping pack. like her, prisonin was quite new. they hit it off. for many days she stayed, watching wolves come and go like they'd never been there at all.
it was one night, about six months into her stay when she awoke that she entered the fire-den, a place she had not been allowed. under the crackling flame was charred bones, skulls tossed to the side of the startled, she tried to flee, catching a glimpse of those distinct pink-blue eyes. pyre cornered her at the entrance, and moved closer, pushing her towards the fire. his too-white teeth flashing in a smile. "what's the matter, love, afraid of a little flame?" she could swear she saw fire flicker behind those eyes. madness. "do me a favor. fuel the fire."
but before he could force her into the dancing plasma, she bolted to his right and slipped out into the night, fleeing this wretched place.
