Lore: As the leaves changed to a riot of fire, and the nights drew long with the rich blue world of dreams under the moon, Quil came across a very strange wolf on the outskirts of a deep forest. At first, she thought she was surely dreaming, for he looked much more a part of that world than the world of the waking. When he invited her to return home with him, she followed easily, accepting the strange wolf and the strange welcome as easily as she would in a dream. She settled down in a nest of leaves, expecting to wake in the woods. And wake in the woods she did, surrounded by a pack of strange wolves. At first she was tense, remembering too keenly the horrible violence she'd faced when another pack attacked her on her journey, unused to being surrounded so entirely by strangers. She was puzzled when they seemed to pay her little mind, and had a wild moment of wondering if she were still in a dream when a friendly little pup scampered up to greet her, tail wagging as he asked if she wanted to play. Quil hesitated, worried that his mother would defend him, but instead the strange blue wolf she'd followed startled her, having slipped quietly up behind her.
"You are welcome to stay as long as you like," he said, batting lightly at the pup who squeaked and attacked his paw with obvious delight. "Winter can be difficult to face alone." He smiled at her, his blue pelt still vibrant but less dreamlike in the light of day. "We would be grateful for help while you're here, but you are under no obligation to stay."
His voice was soft, and his movement gentle as he let the young puppy pounce and chew on his offered paw. Quil looked out over the small clearing, watching as hunting parties escorted eager young wolves to learn from their parents, as pupsitters played and taught the little ones, there were so very many little ones in this pack, all gleeful, not even one slinking or flinching from the adults. "It looks like your pack could use a paw with the little ones," she added, a little unsure of making such an offer. But the pale pupsitter was being buried under a pile of giggling pups and the golden one seemed to be struggling to stop his class from doing the same. She'd always had a fondness for pups, and here... it seemed it would be different here.
She stayed here for few moons, spending most of her time with the other pupsitters and getting to watch the pups she helped look after grow up and join their parents as adolescents. She felt the ache of not having had the chance to do the same for the pups of her birthpack, but the warmth of pride, of a job well done, was a sunny glow in her heart. As the sun warmed the forest, she felt that restlessness return. She wasn't needed here any longer, and the wide world was waiting.
