River in Shadow

Born into the Aeskir pack, he always knew he was destined to take his mother's place as the Godshell of the Bat. He was born for one purpose, and when the time came he knew his consciousness, his awareness, his very self, would be smothered until he sunk into the darkness of nonexistence and the Bat would take over his body.

In short, within the first month of his life, he had learned fear. Perhaps, when the strangers passed through his pack's territory, this was what drew the eye of the inky female to him. Perhaps this was why, while the two leaders were discussing the borders between the new pack's territory and the Aeskir's own, the same inky female was murmuring to his mother in a voice too low for him to hear. In the end, he couldn't know why - but when his mother told him he would be going with the strange female and her pack, he couldn't find it in himself to be too upset. A new life was an easy price to pay for the knowledge it would truly be his.

The inky female, Shadows at Midnight, was the den mother of this small new pack. She took him in as her own pup, gave him a name in the style of hers. River in Shadow, she called him.

Even after settling into his place within his new pack, River in Shadow remains a restless young wolf. He rises with the moon, sitting vigil outside the nursery den until the sunrise lets him know his family has made it through another night.
