TW/CW || Lore has degrading comments to users wolf, yelling, feeling trapped, feeling scared, being threatened, and concerning weather.
Ever since you have entered this area of land the rain has poured and it has oddly felt like it has been consistently night; but you know that's not possible. It's not.
Scrambling up the tree is difficult, the rain wetting the bark of the tree making it slippery and difficult for you to hook your claws into. Though you can't deny the obvious safety that comes with resting here. You suppose it isn't surprising that the lead of this pack sleeps up here.
You finally hoist yourself up to a wondrous platform-like area in the tree. The branches thread and weave together, creating a strong and supportive wooden ground. However, the wood seems to have delicate carvings with symbols you do not recognize, save for two that look vaguely like the moon and… stars?
The tree-den is decorated with leafs, flowers, petals, and odd trinkets you don't understand; in the air are small floating orbs that range from blue to green, they shine brightly and seem to giggle and whisper words that you can't quite catch.
"Are you done sight-seeing?" A light and high pitched voice questions from behind you. As you swing around you find a wolf almost hidden in the shadows of the branches and leafs, the only things that create enough light for them to be seen are the flying orbs and some strange blue fire on their back that they do not seem to mind.
Their fur is dark and lightly marked while their eyes are mismatched. They gaze at you with a cold look, there is no kindness for you here it seems.
You ask them about themself and if this land is truly theirs. You have many other questions, but you have the feeling that this wolf has little patience. Though you don't speak there'these questions, your brain feels odd, and the wolfs eyes pierce you, their eyes to pull your thoughts from you, like they are taking everything in your mind. It's uncomfortable.
The wolf huffs at you and turns away to look across the land before turning to look at the sky. They do not speak for a long while, but you feel that you probably shouldn't say anything before they reply.
"I am called Polaris-Glair and this land is not mine, it is ours."
You are confused by this statement, ours? You do not live here, you have your own pack, with some uncertainty you express these thoughts. Before you even finish the final word of your sentence a harsh laugh drowns out your thoughts.
The wolf looks back at you and stands to their full hight. While they may be no larger than you when on even ground, this Polaris-Glair is on a heightened area of wood, making them seem twice as tall than you.
You find yourself unconsciously taking a step back and flattening your ears while the fur on your back bristles.
"Not everything is about you little wolf." They spit out at you, bearing their teeth. "An outsider like you wouldn't, understand would you? Us as in we, we as in us. The Eyes, The Stars, the wolves that live here, those who are chosen." Their eyes go unfocused and they pause, you think they realize that they have snapped at you over a simple question, however, when they continue with their growling you notice that their eyes have not refocused. They look very overwhelmed, their eyes are full of pain, anger, sadness, confusion, and loss. You are unsure if they still see you or if they are somewhere else. You start to worry and go to say something, hoping that they may snap out if it, however, they cut you off.
They draw closer but do not come down from their step. They 'stare' down at you past their snout.
"Little Wolf, Simple Wolf. Outsider. You can never understand. You are the fifth I've had come to me today. Asking for answers that are above them, that they don't deserve to know. A wolf like you could never truly feel what we feel, suffer the way we suffer, flourish the way we flourish. You could never understand, you can never fully know. Worthless bags of bone, meat, and blood like you piss me off." They finally step down from the ledge, but instead of shrinking to your size like they should have, they seemed to grow larger, their teeth and claws growing sharper, their fur begins to wisp like shadows. You stumble back in fear before remembering that there is no place for you to truly go, "My predecessor loved creatures like you, worshiped the simplicity of life you have, always wanted to learn more about you and what you do during your simple little lives. He pushed away so many of our customs, even being the first chosen! He still chose you! And still in Physical Rest he prowls in spirit, under the light of The Deity, looking to learn more about you!"
Their voice bellowed and the wind begins to howl, your fur being pulled violently by it. You can feel your breath quicken and your confusion grow, what was this wolf even saying?
"Five of you today! Bumbling in here like you ought to! Like you deserve it! I've tolerated your kind thus far, but still you stumble to me! Questions falling from your lips, curiosities flooding your brain! Do you know how noisy your thoughts are!? How loud the neurons in your brain are?! DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING?!"
By now they are frothing a concerning blue and black liquid from their mouth, they have grown so large that the tree sways and creaks with effort to hold the giant wolf before you. Past the howl of the wind you can hear nothing but the wolfs breathing and words, you freeze in fear.
There is no escape.
Though you brace for the worse, you find yourself unable to tear your eyes from the creature before you. It is because of your watch that you notice the creatures pause. They stare at you with wide unseeing eyes and an unreadable gaze, it's a simple shift, inconsequential in any other scenario, but their eyes focus, and they finally see you again.
You dare not move.
"No. You don't understand. You don't know. You aren't- I- MoonWatcher, I apologize." They suddenly take a step back and turn from you. The wind dies down as they step back onto their ledge and begin to shrink down to their previous size. The tree shifts back into place with a groan of pain and you let out a breath you hadn't known you were holding.
You do not take your eyes off of the creature.
There is a long silence as the thing sits and takes a few breaths. With their paws they try their best to wipe the foam from their mouth before spitting out the rest to the side. They look a bit embarrassed at this. They seem to shrink in on them-self, pulling their tail close and dipping their head while pinning their ears back. They do not raise their eyes to you.
"I am so sorry. I… went somewhere and lost my temper, it has been a very long six weeks with no rest and many ceremonies… not that that is an excuse of course… wow. Uhm…" They pause and take another deep breath while scraping their paw against the wood under them, seeming to trace the runes before continuing. "Yes, put simply and generally, this is my pack and this is my land. I… will answer the questions you ask me; and after, if you feel comfortable with it, after that… show. I offer you a meal and safe refugee for your sleep cycle; both of which will be provided to you by someone other than… me"
You take your time with formulating your response.
