the snacc pacc 🥓
Listed in order of hierarchy.
the alpha
The alpha performs the role of a herbalist, hunter, and scout independently and arguably contributes the most to the well-being of the pack. He trailblazes distant territories in search of rare herbs and brings home game around the clock, as well as recruits potential new pack members should the workload of his family become too great. Experienced and well-traveled, he is often gone from home and therefore only takes responsibility for the most significant decisions when it comes to his pack. Ultimately, his word is law and all pack members answer to him.
All new wolves in the snacc pacc are christened with a new name by the alpha based on the naming scheme established by the pack founder, Tofu. Tales of his life and the plentiful bounty provided by humans are passed down through generations, and each member is named after such legendary rations beyond their normal game in the wilds. The only exception to this rule are the descendants of the Redeemed, to which there do not appear to be any rules regarding identity.
The Redeemed
The royal matrilineal line of the pack. Established since its founding, they take over the majority of the leadership and decision-making. The matron (elder-most living female of the line) is the second-in-command to the alpha and delegates only the most important decisions to him. All family members of the Redeemed line rank higher than the rest of the pack, barring the alpha. However, they still take on traditional roles of the pack and are typically assigned to pupsitting.
(Names can be anything I want. Can sometimes be based on a hobby/interest/fandom that I am currently invested in; if I don't have one at the time then I will probably default to the food theme again for that generation.)
herbalists, scouts, and mentors
Although not official, it is assumed that the mentors rank higher than the herbalist due to seniority, and the herbalist ranks slightly higher than the scouts. Mentors impart their wisdom to pups that are expected to fill certain roles when they mature, but in general enjoy their twilight years relaxing and having their needs fulfilled by others. Herbalists care for the physiological health and well-being of the entire pack. While they diagnose wolves and create medicines, they spend most of their time foraging in their home biome for useful plants. Scouts are sent to survey distant lands and bring back anything of value that they find; they establish relations with the packs native to the area and when they are home they patrol the borders of the territory.
hunters and pupsitters
Hunters gather the majority of the food for the pack. Pupsitters are typically assigned to one pup to their care at a time, but may take on more if needed.
vagrants
Vagrants are travelling wolves that find temporary asylum within the folds of the pack, ensuring that they are well fed and cared for. These vagrants are typically females that are charmed by a male in the pack and remain to bear a single litter of pups before moving on.
