Otis had been a member of a more traditional pack, tightly-knit and insistent on breeding to increase their numbers rather than letting any willing loner join their ranks. While he dearly loved helping take care of the pups, he deeply desired to travel and find a mate of his own.
So he left, promising to visit again as his nearly year-long journey began. It was harsh, and lonely, but eventually he came across a couple of expecting young wolves. They were intent on starting their own pack- but had been far too eager to have thought any of the details through. It was unmistakably foolhardy of them, but with the younger female nervous and clearly ready to pop, Otis felt obligated to stick around and help them get their bearings.
One favor lead to another, and as more wolves joined overtime, Otis found his intentionally temporary kindness had landed him in a respectable position of the new pack. Being the eldest and most knowledgeable, many looked up to him. And that respect only grew when he stepped down as a pupsitter to seek out a mentor in herbalism when the pack began to fall ill.
