Biography
Kyari was born into the Pack of Fire and Chaos, and male wolves were falling all over her. Some were much more intense than others, and Kyari hated it.
"Kyari, do you want some prey?" Cinnamon Cheesecake asked her.
"Kyari, you sure are pretty!" Mark told her with a flirtatious wink.
"Kyari, are you bored? Wanna hang out?" asked Auburn Cloud with a gentle, flirty purr.
It was an endless stream of compliments and flirting. Kyari, however, couldn't care less about all the things they said. Kyari really only had eyes for one wolf.
Broken Dreams.
Broken Dreams was new to the pack, and their pelt was an even more vibrant pink than Kyari's own. Splashes of vivid blues and yellows lit her shimmering fur, and Kyari couldn't help falling for them. She knew her parents would want her to find a nice male wolf to mate with- her pink pelt was supposedly very rare, and she was supposed to pass it on through the generations. Just like her mother had. Just like her mother's mother had. And so on.
Kyari supposed she could find a wolf to breed with, but she didn't want anyone but Broken Dreams to be her mate. Would her mother understand if she picked a she-wolf as a mate, or would she just be angry that Kyari wouldn't be passing on her gorgeous fur anytime soon?
She sighed. Her life had been easy enough, but now it felt mixed-up and chaotic. Kyari's mother padded up to her, interrupting her thoughts.
"Kya, have you found a mate yet? Cinnamon Cheesecake is single, and what a handsome lad he is! You two could have the prettiest pink pups together...!" she said. Kyari sighed again.
"No. Not... not yet." Her mother looked disappointed.
"Oh. Well, that's a shame. Soon, then." She padded away.
Kyari felt like her heart was going to shatter in two, torn between her mother's desires and her own. She loved Broken Dreams. Her mother wanted her only daughter to find a male to mate with, to breed with.
"AURGH!" Kyari shouted. "Why is this so HARD?!" She hadn't meant to say that aloud; the words had simply come out of her mouth without her realizing it.
Embarrassed that she had called attention to herself, she ran out of the camp before anyone could realize she was the one who had spoken.
Kyari ran and ran, trying to take her mind off of her current situation. She had always been a fast runner, quick and agile. Everyone told her that she'd be a good chaser someday, but Kyari had never been sure that was what she wanted for her life.
Hunting was fun, she supposed. But was it really what she wanted to do for the rest of her life? Kyari pushed the thoughts away and slowed down.
"Whoa," she said aloud, to no one in particular. "Wh-where am I?" Kyari stared at the flowers and trees, certain that she'd never seen them before. Just how far had she gone, exactly?
"You are in the Wildwood Grove," a mischievous, mysterious voice responded. Kyari jumped. She had thought that she was alone.
"Thought that you were alone, eh, Wolfy?" said the mystery voice. "Well, hate t' break it to ya, but you're not. Surprise!"
A coyote stepped out of the bushes. It- Kyari decided that it looked male- was very skinny and had a ton of scars covering his pelt.
Kyari tried not to stare, and failed.
"Who-?" Shocked, that was the only thing that she could force out of her mouth. The coyote grinned at her.
"Who's askin', Wolfy?" the coyote asked. Seeing the expression on her face, he chuckled. "I'm just messin' witch'ya, Wolfy. The name's Sky. Now are ya gonna tell me your name, or am I just gonna have t' call ya Wolfy?"
"K-kyari," Kyari stuttered, still shocked. "My name's Kyari, and I come from the Pack of Fire and Chaos. Lead by Corrupted Sunrise. Do you know it?" The coyote laughed.
"Aye. My mothe' was born there- I was too." Kyari gasped.
"You're a coywolf?! Born in my pack?!" Sky laughed harder.
"Yep. Half-breed, they called me. Dirty half-breed. That one pink pupper was the worst, she tried t' kill me once. Twice. I fled b'fore she could succeed an' made my home out here, in the wild. Didn't stay there long, though." Sky looked at her. "You know, you look a bit like that pink pupper." Kyari was stunned, then spluttered, "I- I- did the pink pup- w-was she born in the pack? Did she have purple patches?" The coywolf considered this.
"No t' the pack, yes t' the fur."
Kyari sat down. "I- she's my mother. She used to tell me stories about her old pack, Aurora-Pack or something like that."
Sky eyed her scornfully. "Oh. Well, I guess you'd best be gettin' back t' her, then," he growled, breaking eye contact. He started walking away.
"Sky!! Wait!! I'm not like her, I promise! She's strict and has too many rules and doesn't really care if I'm happy as long as I pass down my coat but I don't want to! I like Broken Dreams, not Cinnamon Cheesecake or Mark or Auburn Cloud or all those other wolves that she says I could mate with to have pretty pink pups! That's all she cares about! Me, carrying on my fur! But I'm sick and tired of only thinking about breeding and genetics and stuff. I want to think about love. And trust. And my own happiness, not hers! And I don't want my future to be one she assigns me; I want it to be my own. Please, come back!"
The words all tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop them. Kyari blushed.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to rant. Maybe you're right, I probably should be getting back before everyone starts looking for me... they're already going to be wondering where I was and why I was gone so long."
Sky didn't say anything, he just winked at her and disappeared through the trees. When he returned, he spoke.
"There's some bovines in a field over there- probably owned by careless two-legs who don't realize wolves and coyotes and other things live in these woods. If you wanted, we could try t' take one down, so that you have an excuse as to why you were out so late."
Kyari made a noise a bit like a purr. "Thank you, that would be great!"
She and Sky wandered off towards the field of cows. Several were grazing close to the edge of the forest. They would be easy targets.
"Do you know how to hunt in a team?" Kyari asked Sky, her voice barely a whisper. He nodded.
"I'll finish the job if you'll chase it down!" Ever so quietly, the two crept closer and closer. Kyari saw her moment and went for it.
The wind blew through her pretty pink fur, revealing the paler pink undercoat as she ran. Kyari was thankful for her natural hunting skills now; they really made her job easier. Sky was watching her, astonished- he hadn't expected the young she-wolf to be that fast.
