Horus is a small, albino male who lived life as an adolescent loner in a hollow built into a tree's stump. One day, he was peacefully sleeping when he had woken to a loud yelp, and Horus grinned. His dinner arrived! He padded excitedly to the edge of the gorge, and peered inside. Horus' tail fell and his eyes widened in horror as he saw the bloody corpse of a bright, large male. Just by the sheer size of this male, and the fact that he exuded power even in the afterlife, told him that this male was an Alpha.
Lead by his instincts, he knew he needed to let this wolf's pack know what happened, no matter how rough the journey would be. He found his small, hidden path that lead into the deep gorge, him carful to weave through the large jagged spikes that stuck out of the base. He gagged as he saw the blood covering the large spike this Alpha had fallen onto. He leaned in and shoved his nose into the black, purple, and blue tail, making sure to remember the scent. He then hopped out of the gorge, sniffing the air until he caught a wiff of the other wolf's scent. He followed the trail for a long while, maybe even hours before he came across another gorge. Though, this ravine was incredibly deep- a lot deeper than the one by his home.
He gave a shrill bark into the darkness, the faint noise inside dying down quickly. Suddenly he heard a few barks, and then there were two wolves in front of him. "What's your purpose?" The Orange female spoke, the dragon on her back snarling smoke into the air. "Y-your Alpha, something has happened-" Horus scrambled for words, tail tucked as the two she-wolves stood a lot taller than he did, looming over him like predators to their prey. "Take us," the dark blue and white female demanded, and the albino nodded, turning around swiftly and taking off.
He ran as fast as his short legs would let him, and he weaved through the small openings between trees quickly, taking pride in the fact that the larger females struggled to weave in tight spaces like he could easily do. He skirted to a stop in front of the gorge, turning to the girls behind him. The two females took in the sight, horror and sadness framing their features as their tails and ears flattened. "Who could replace such a savior as him?" The orange female whispered to her packmate, the other turning to the albino adol. "How did you know he was here? Did you push him, perhaps?"
Horus shook his head, tail flicking to the tree stump on the other side of the ravine. "I-I live in that tree over there. I was just sleeping and I heard a yelp, so I ran out and-and.." Horus gulped down his breath, bowing slightly to the wolves in front of him. The piebald wolf leaned down, teeth bared slightly. Horus flattened himself to the ground, giving a whine as the adult snarled and spat down at him. She suddenly stopped, standing up and taking a step back to be next to her packmate. "Hmm. Giygas, I think I found him."
The other growled, ears flicking back in aggrivation, "This puny, tiny, little thing? He can't even stand up to us at all! He won't even grow to half the size of you, Viinturuth!" Horus lifted his head slightly, noticing they weren't looking at him anymore. He slowly stood up before shaking off his nerves. He sat patiently as the two discussed him in a very insulting manner. "Who else, Giygas? Konahrik refused to give us pups when he was with us! All the pups that are growing have learned from Haunted Serpent and Moose! You know they only teach about the awful ways our Pack used to go by. We need a wolf with empathy. This adolescent still has time to be trained. He can learn to be firm when he needs to be. He's lucky to know he isn't the best wolf out here. He knows his limits, and he knows he isn't going to be a big, powerful Alpha like Konahrik was."
Giygas stared hard at the young, frail albino. She took a few minutes to collect her thoughts before turning to the other female. "We don't know his family, or where he came from. What if he's lying to us? Yes, he can be trained to lay a firm paw when he needs to, but that doesn't mean he will. What if he can't maintain the duties of an Alpha? If he gets into a fight with something like a badger or bear he wouldn't ever make it! We need an Alpha that we can trust to come back in one piece." Viinturuth nodded, tail flicking dismissively at the words.
"Giygas. With all due respect to you being my elder, I am going to have you rethink. When following him here, he could fit into small openings easily, and even managed to outrun us. He doesn't have all that extra weight on him. Keep in mind, there are things you can do only when you are small. Also, he lived in a tree stump, do you smell any other wolves? He probably doesn't even know his own family, either. You can't assume things like that." Viinturuth huffed, sitting down in defiance at the older female's opinion. Giygas rolled her eyes, but turned back to the albino wolf to think again. The staring was very uncomfortable, Horus might say.
"Tch. Fine, but I'm not helping. I'm not going to hesitate to drive him out if he does an awful job," Giygas spat, kicking up dirt behind her as she turned and started walking back the way they came. Viinturuth panted happily, jumping up and padding over to the younger wolf. "Albino, ready to go? You don't have a real Pack, right? We want to train you to be our Alpha. You up for the challenge?" The white male huffed, but grinned back, "sounded like I didn't have a choice. Also, it's Horus, not Albino. I mean... you also are not wrong, but..." he trailed off, and Viinturuth cackled. "Of course you don't have a choice! Joking, joking... or am I? Let's head home. We have some news to break to the rest of them."
