Kijelo

Even as a puppy, Kijelo (pronounced: key-say-low) shouldered the weight of the pack's expectations. Nymẹ's first litter, they said. Surely she will choose one of them to rule next. He could feel how he drew their attention most. Because unlike most of his siblings, whom he could already see wanted the wandering life, he embraced his birthright. He could not race as fast or detect trails as well as Xkiran, but he trained longer and harder. And, though he never said it, he was willing to fight his brother for the rule if he had to.

Kijelo grew more and more ambitious. His world narrowed down to training and sizing up his brother. Even Xo'ana, who had grown up alongside him for most of his youth, knew little about him. And in his adolescence, he picked his final fight. It was a playfight with Xkiran, but it suddenly, rapidly devolved into a whirl of claws and teeth. Only when they paused to glare at each other, snarling viciously and panting with exertion, did they realize they were being watched.

It was a bright spring day when his mother banished him from the pack. House Finch has no place for wolves who only care for their own ambition. And, wounded by the fight and by the truth of his mother's words, he limped off into the beyondlands. Eventually, his fury ebbed and left only regret behind.

Kijelo waited out of sight under a bush until Xkiran walked by without noticing him. Just as Uma demonstrated, Kijelo jumped from the bush and tackled Xkiran to the ground successfully.

Kijelo leaps to their paws and sizes you up, asking if you'd like to do some training with a real warrior like them.

Kijelo began tussling with a littermate and clamped down hard with his teeth on the littermate's tail. The littermate let out a cry, and Uma trotted over and explained that while teeth can be used, they must be used gently and without any force.
