When Elio was just a newborn pup, she fell very ill, so her mother abandoned her outside a town a few miles away from the pack's territory. Some researchers found her and started treating her illness with different medicines. One of the medicines caused her parietal lobe to grow, which enabled her to understand English. She stayed with them until she was 6 months old when they realized she could understand them. To verify this, they had her solve "impossible puzzles," which would be impossible to complete unless someone explained how to do it. After this, they began working on a collar that could read her brain waves and translate what she was thinking.

Later, she was transferred to a different research facility run by the government. While there, she was trained and manipulated to bring more wolves to them to turn them into weapons with supernatural powers to fight in wars. Eventually, she was dropped near her old wolf pack, and every 6 months, she had to bring some wolves to the researchers.
