came to her forever home halloween 2023.

Name inspired by Manilius's Astronomica, and the Nereids of Greek myths. Lyrics from Operation Deepness.

Before Vivineris spoke her true name, she was just simply Vivi. Born to powerful parents, it did not take her long to understand that she would, one day, hold that same strength. She, like all other puppies, constantly pushed boundaries, and somewhat tragically, her parents did not have time for her.

What followed next was unpredictable tragedy. One night, she ventured too far towards lapping waves and singing stones, her four paws tapping away without a care in the world. She did not notice the malevolent shadow emerge from the sea, fins tinted with corruption, scales obscuring any warmth. The creature's jaws were so vast that it took both her hind legs and seized her into the waves. Vivi never saw her dam and sire again.

When she came to, she found herself on sand and silt, fixed in night and water. She tried to get up on all four paws, but found only her two front paws would obey her fragile commands. Her tiny mind came to the conclusion that her hind paws had been fused together from the attack by the creature, and began to thrash, sinking beneath the waves...

"Vivineris, you must leave."

Vivi blinked, watching a school of fish go by. Surely it was not from them? The voice was surrounding her, buffeting her. If she wearily tilted her head up she could see-

A large shadow, larger than even her sire, loomed over the pup, alabaster in blue, yet Vivineris was not afraid.

"Vivineris, I have given you the blessing of the Veneris Mater, and thus my name," the voice washed over the pup. "I know you may have many questions, but you must escape the sea above all. Near the stones, you will find a Pack, where nestlings gather. They will cherish you from now on."

Before Vivineris could ask, or even thank the alabaster voice, she felt the sea surge underneath her, melting her limbs into the water and sending her home.

Yet the waves will not be quick to forget her escape.
