A Final Farewell

Since birth, Zagreus and Megara could tell that Qiu was different - Strong. During their training sessions, Megara had a front row seat to Qiu's abilities. Qiu picked up their lessons easily, and would very often outmatch their pupsitters in foot races and play fights. It was clear to her that Qiu was holding back in training, deliberately trying to go unnoticed and not outshine their siblings. Meg noticed that Qiu was often trying their best to not make waves and prevent any hurt feelings amongst their peers.

As Qiu approached adolescence, Meg pulled Zagreus aside for a discussion. "My love, Qiu has some of the highest potential I've ever seen out of our children. I am worried that if they were to remain here, their potential would be squandered." Her brow furrowed with concern. "Perhaps somewhere that they can be themselves without feeling the pressures of being the pack leader's child."

"You're right, Qiu is already holding back. If they are to truly flourish, they'll need a pack of their own." Zagreus said, pensive as he considered potential options. "I'll head out, and see if any of our allies are in need. I will return once I've found a suitable place." Zagreus pressed his forehead against Meg's before wandering north to seek his friends.

Zagreus made the trek up to the grasslands in search of his friend Vivienne. He had caught wind of her deteriorating condition recently, and thought it might be prudent to check in. It was clear that she was unwell, and that her condition would not likely improve. "Well met, friend. I have heard the news. I am deeply sorry about your ailment." Zagreus sniffed Vivienne in greeting. "I believe I might have a solution for your pack that could potentially benefit mine as well." Zagreus and Vivienne spoke extensively regarding Qiu's ability and potential, and how it was possible Qiu could be a boon to Vivienne's pack.

Once they came to an agreement, Zagreus departed to speak to Qiu and bring them here to meet the pack. "Take care, I will do my best to return as quickly as I can."

Upon his return, Zagreus immediately sought out Megara to discuss the news. "Vivienne is not doing well. We spoke about Qiu possibly taking over in her stead. I was saddened to hear about her health, but perhaps we can do her this final service." Meg looked somber as Zagreus recounted the discussions to her. She gave a brief nod once he was finished. "We help those that help us," she said in agreement. Together, they went to find Qiu to tell them the news.

They found Qiu and Surion playing together in pup den. The two had always been close, with Surion always coming in second place when competing with Qiu. The rivalry only seemed to bring the two of them closer. "Hey kiddos." Zagreus said as he entered the den with Meg. He was greeted eagerly by his two children. "I've got some news for you." The pups both tilted their heads at the statement. They were blissfully unaware of the business of the adults.

"An allied pack is facing hardship, and we have come to an agreement to assist them. That involves both of you moving there to help them. Qiu, you would be sent to take over." Zagreus paused, to give the pups a moment to let the news sink in fully. Qiu's brow furrowed as they digested what their father said. Qiu's eyes hardened a bit in understanding, giving a nod. "You have always excelled in every lesson we have taught you. You would do well there, and carrying on our legacy. Surion would of course accompany you." Surion barked with joy at the idea of accompanying his sibling. "Please, take the night to process and we can discuss any questions you may have, but we are set to leave in the morning. I know you will both do well and will make us proud." Zagreus and Megara showered both their pups with kisses as the two settled into an excited conversation about the journey and what their new lives might entail.
