From the former alpha Stygian I's deathbed, after moons of indecision, he named young In-isa as his heir and bestowed upon him his true name as leader of the Agaat Mountain Pack: Desperate Souls.
The name 'Desperate Souls' is a fairly obvious homage to season 1 episode 8 of Once Upon a Time which shares the same name. It is the first episode where Baelfire makes an appearance, hence his bonfire background.
