From early life as a pup, Laiken was told many a story from the sitters in the daycare--all that revolved around the Great Spirits. Leaders and creators of the First Land, they were legendary wolves borne from nothing but the world itself. They say Maka came before the others, from the first beam of sunlight, and Tanto followed from her one, vast ocean; from there, Tanto pulled Terr from the depths and he brought with him the land. Then so on, and so forth.
Laiken knew these were real. She was sure of it; she saw them in her dreams.
Every last one of them, from fantastic spectacles such as Vinar, the Great Spirit of Death, to the lesser known Ito, the Great Spirit of Prey. They showed behind her eyes when she drifted off and the feeling of their presence stayed with her when Maka's sun rose in the mornings--and each one had a different feeling to them. Again and again, Laiken learned to pinpoint the Spirits around her, familiarizing herself with their senses and how they interacted with the world around her. She became a spectacle herself.
On her second year, Laiken broke from her mother pack, desperate for peace, from being used as our equivalent of a fortune teller. She was no mere seer! She had a connection--a real one--to their Spirits. And she was determined to find wolves that shared her respect and dignity.
