I. Kite

Kite is the packs traveling mediator. Her sole purpose is to travel between territories, groups, and sometimes within her own pack, and settle unstable relations and conflicts to keep them from escalating into something dangerous.

Magpie is big on keeping her packmates safe and though she is willing to fight for them, she is not willing to risk any of their lives over something that can be resolved. That is what Kite is for.

Kite, although lacking in experience, is important enough to the pack to sleep with and be in Tier 1. She's always ready to step in and cover for a role, should someone be unavailable. She's usually not good at anything she tries, but she's come a long way from her adolescense.

As a pup and apprentice, Kite was quite the nervous wreck. She was always worried about doing something wrong, even if it was her very first time trying it. Apostle tried to bring her on hunts to teach her, he really did, but her fear could be detected from miles away and her failures didn't exactly encourage her.
Noticing this, Magpie approached her trusted herbalist Vireo and asked if he can train Kite along with Raven.

"It's important that we build her confidence - being put before difficult and high-pressure tasks will only lead to more disappointment. She has a bright future; we just need to put her on the right path."

After a few weeks of watching, Vireo and Raven encouraged Kite to try mixing the herbs needed for an ointment. It wasn't needed, and the ingredients weren't particularly hard to find, so they really had nothing to lose. When she succeeded, and found that it wasn't so hard when you just gave it some time, something just clicked. Along with Vireo, Raven and even Shrike's encouragement, along with a lot of practice, Kite got more comfortable with learning and making mistakes.

Her role as a mediator would begin towards the end of her adolesence. She stumbled upon Warbler and Wren, the scouts, arguing about scent posts just after returning from a scouting mission. The tension was rising and it was clear that at any moment, they would likely lunge at each other and break out into a fight. But Magpie wasn't around and neither were any other adults; Vireo was away in the Hidden Grotto, tending to the sick. In a moment of panic, Kite rushed forward to get their attention and try to make them see sense.

"Stop! What's going on?! Quiet down, you'll attract coyotes!! And nobody's around to protect the pups. What happened with you two?"

Though they only calmed down for a second before starting on long, angry rants about each other at the same time, Kite was able to gather each side of the story and clear up the misunderstanding.

Once Magpie returned, Kite, shaking and sobbing from adrenaline, came up to her to explain the conversation. The leader was quick to reassure her that she did exactly what she should have done, and it was very brave of her. This, together with the confidence training with Vireo, sparked the question;
should she pursue this?
Vireo was not looking for another herbalist, and it was too late for Kite to start training thoroughly now. And there was already a hunting group, Apostle's, and it was already full.
Magpie thought it over for a long while but eventually decided; yes, Kite should be the mediator of the pack. It'll be good to have someone neutral in conflicts.
