Wunderpus photogenicus

The Wunderpus Octopus! These guys can change their appearance in response to their environment, and are commonly mistook for a similar octopus species called the mimic octopus. When trying to track the species, researchers struggled to find a way to identify individual octopuses, not just with this specific species. Researchers usually use scars/missing limbs to identify individuals in a population, however octopuses are able to regenerate limbs and heal quickly. The researchers could not attach an external tag as the octopuses were very adept at removing them. The best solution is photo-identification of the specific octopus they are studying.
