McKinley has always been the most reliable wolf in the pack. You need her to watch your pups? She's got it covered. Are you hungry? Abracadabra, there's a weasel at your paws. Uh oh, the lead wolf's about to die? No worries. That's just ONE of the many reasons Zelda, the pack's first and former leader, chose the reliable McKinley to take over. But she wasn't always like that.
She once was an outcast in her first pack, cherished by no one. So one day she left. She soon came across Halla, the Mossclaw Pack's leader. They treated her kindly, but McKinley knew she wasn't meant to stay. Then she was taken in by Zelda, and everyone loved her immediately, for her charming looks and her unique eyes. Well, ALMOST everyone. Ozarka, Zelda's first son, was always destined to be the next leader, or until she came along anyway. Even though he is a humble and handsome lad, he becomes bitter and cold to her once he finds out Zelda is thinking of making her leader instead of him. And after that day Ozarka would mock her, saying her base color was ugly, the way she stood was a disgrace, that her markings were little. She ignored him, even though every comment was slowly weakening her confidence. Instead, she tried to focus on being the best role model she could be, training the pups, and caring for the old.
On one snowy morning, Zelda was lying in her den, on the fresh moss and feathers McKinley had gathered the previous day. Ozarka, McKinley, and the herbalist, Citrus, were the only ones in the den along with Zelda. Zelda was barely talking, only hushed whispers escaped her jowls, saying," McKinley, you were always destined to be the next leader," followed by a long pause and a gasp for air," I know you will serve this pack rightfully after I have gone. You are like a daughter to me. Goodbye, Citrus, my dear son, and the next leader." She then angled her head to give Ozarka a lick on his ear, a boop of the nose to Citrus, and finally, Zelda placed her head against Mckinley's to take her final breath.
The mocking continued a few days after Zelda's passing, and the heartbroken McKinley couldn't take it anymore. She bought the Antunumbra base app with the few lunar tears she had saved changed her base, added a marking, and changed how she posed. Ozarka finally quieted, and now does his scouts in pure silence while McKinley is as confident as ever, holding her head up high as she leads her pack towards greatness
