Blackout was never the perfect wolf. He always got into trouble and his father always had to save him from dangers like bears or pack wolves.
So Blackout thought he was safe, as long as his father was with him. But one cold leaf-fall, when Blackout was 6 months old, Blackout's father was out hunting. After a while, Blackout decided to search for him.
What he found was worse than he could ever imagine. His father's sleek black pelt was stained blood-red and gashes covered his flank. Blackout rushed over to him, tears filling his eyes.
"Blackout…" his father rasped, and Blackout whined, his ears flattening.
"Father?" the black pup said, "Who did this to you?"
His father weakly turned his head to look at the forest surrounding them. Eyes glowed in the shadows, snarls came from the wolves hiding in them. Blackout let out a weak growl, too emotional to be scary.
The wolves laughed like hyenas, closing in on the small black pup. Blood stained on three of the wolves' jaws (Hailstorm, Atalanta, and ???) , and they looked vicious and bloodthirsty in Blackout's eyes.
Blackout whined, moving closer to his father. He nudged him, and his father's eyes widened.
"Blackout, look out!" he barked weakly, and Blackout moved just in time to avoid an attack from the grayish-white male wolf. He missed Blackout narrowly, and snarled at the pup. The wolf padded up to Blackout's father, and Blackout's eyes widened.
The gray-white wolf's eyes shone with a murderous glance and killed Blackout's father. He turned to the younger wolf and growled before he left with the rest of the wolves.
Blackout let out an agonized whine, and lifted his muzzle to the sky and howled.
"May the shadows light your path, Father." he whispered, and whipped around to face the wolves before they left.
"I'll kill you!" he shouted, "You did this, this is on you! Your pack won't see me coming, I'll kill you all!" he vowed, and they left, and Blackout knew he would do as he promised. Blackout looked up at the stars.
" They won't know me for who I am now. My name is not Blackout anymore, but ShadowStrike, for I will only strike in the shadows, and they will never see the light of day again."
