i miss this place
your head and your heart

From birth, Nova had to fight to survive. She was the result of an unethical breeding by an exotic pet trader in America, intent on profiting off of "wolfdog" puppies. She never got to really bond with her littermates or parents, a German Shepherd mother and Eastern Timber Wolf father, as she was sold as soon as she weaned.

The man who had purchased her never physically harmed her, or the other two canines she'd come to know in her short time in The Cage. However, she was not raised with the love and care a pet dog in a loving home, nor a wolf in a family bonded pack, would receive. Instead, her only social enrichment and bonds came in the form of another young Wolfdog, Maine, and a much older and more cantankerous Coydog named Ice. They were all kept in a small fenced enclosure in a rural backyard, surrounded by forest that called out to them every night with promises of freedom.

Maine and Nova bonded, being only a few months apart in age, they were each other's only playmates. Ice, while not kind hearted by nature, begrudgingly taught them what basic survival skills she could in their limited constraints- perhaps out of pity, or lonliness. Regardless, these lessons would prove invaluable when the young Wolfdogs would later become adolescents.

In a stroke of luck, the human who had been feeding them and keeping them captive left their enclosure unsecure. Ice immediately took note of this, and waited for the cover of nightfall to make a move. When the distant lights of the human home had darkened, they struck. With a bit of struggle, all three of the canines had managed to loosen the unlocked gate, and bolted for the forest. Ice would take off out of sight without a word or glance back at the two young Wolfdogs, but this did not come as a surprise to either Nova or Maine. They did not wait for her return either, as they set off in their own direction, to the forests of northern Maine.

Months would go by, the two young wolfdog's bond only growing stronger as they became adults. It would only be natural for them to form a lifelong pair bond, not because they hadn't encountered any other suitable wolves, but because they knew each other so well. Their bond was stronger than ever, and it only made sense for them as their feelings for each other grew.

Avoiding the occasional human logging camp, and much more common and dangerous moose and black bear, the two became accustomed to living in the wild. Prey was infrequent, but not dangerously so. However, this pushed them to keep exploring until they eventually found refuge in the protected wilderness of Acadia National Park. Over time, as they established their territory, Maine and Nova would come across groups and lone wolves. Some interactions would be brief, but others chose to stay- The Iron Lords being the first group of such wolves. Soon after joining, Nova, Maine, and the Iron Lords would establish a permanent territory in Acadia. The family and camaraderie that they had yearned for and missed out on during their youth, was now a comforting and strengthening reality.
