Sun Seeker was taken home from the Enclave as Yip- ---a custom for Moon Mountain wolves to name their newborn pups after a sound they make most--and Sun Seeker was exceptionally quiet. He seemed almost aloof to his adoptive parents, and his pupsitters confirmed this after a few lessons watching him pad indifferently behind his daycare cave-mates. But for all of his cool demeanor, Sun Seeker was bright and knowing--damn near a prodigy, if former leader Leaf Trodder had ever seen one.
So when it came time for naming ceremonies and places earned in the pack, Yip was granted the moniker Sun. Nettle Weaver remarked that she'd never seen a pup's eyes burn so bright after he graduated.
Leaf Trodder took the adolescent wolf under his wing, pulling him away from the general future of a hunter once Sun had gotten enough experience. For Leaf Trodder was growing old, and he couldn't lead the pack from their Dynasty in the Great Beyond. This, he concluded, would be Sun's job after he moved on. He knew the young fighter had much thought about pack life, about their territory and the places far from their reach.
They could get there, to fields for foraging and forests for hunting. Places so filled with prey they'd never see a hungry fall again. But only under Sun's protection.
Sun earned his full name before Leaf Trodder left. Sun Seeker. For his great ability to search for the pack's next bright future.
