Quality of Life Improvements to the WD Messaging System

As of a brief test of mine involving a few others in Main chat, it's come to the conclusion that if someone were to have any of the newest options used, that others would still be able to directly message them. Not in terms of full on sending the message and it getting through, but rather getting it typed out, ready to send, and hitting the Send button only to be prompted with a large banner that exclaims "This player is not accepting messages." (for an all-out block; what I used to test this theory). As a Quality of Life change for Wolvden, if someone has these restrictions placed, make it impossible to message them only strictly through the messaging interface. A suggestion I'd like to place on the table is simply graying out, or even making the "Message" button on a player's profile unclickable/untappable if the messenger doesn't meet the requirements of the receiver. Helps avoid conflict and wasted time to type up a message only to have that erased because a message block was enacted. Another way I can see this being added as Quality of Life addition is within the "Compose Message" interface as well. In this interface, if you as the messenger are trying to send a player with message block restrictions on (depending on the circumstances), have either their dropdown (if in the messenger's friends list) or the manual ID entry have a red banner immediately stating "This player is not accepting messages at this time." That way, the messenger is forewarned that the receiver does not have messages open to the one reaching out. Or if the extent of coding allows it, subtract friends with the blocked messages status completely from your friend list dropdown available in said interface. I've personally had this happen on multiple accounts where friends and sales discussions got barred due to this block, to neither's knowledge. On the messenger side, that they were making the initial contact or to try and forward the conversation only to be stricken down, and to the receiver who thought the messenger had lost interest and moved on. It helps neither parties when both don't realize the block just hides only until it's prompted by a mere green "Send" button. Especially when such things in terms of settings were made to hide where most tend to not usually look, i.e our profile settings (used Dev Update #17's ref picture for the update made): If it weren't for me having experienced this issue, I would've almost instantly disregarded that it was hiding in such an obscure place more than where messages actually happen: in the Messages interface. At best, another Quality of Life option could to be just... move the blocking system into the Messages interface entirely. Messages are meant to be kept together, with its restrictions and limits neatly tucked where it's supposed to to avoid confusion. If anything, if I needed to change my messaging status, I'd want it done on a dime more than scavenging all parts of the site just for a tiny dropdown. Otherwise, thank you for coming to my TED talk, and hopefully, if coding proves to make this fairly easy to execute, we won't have to worry about random ghosting attempts when it's all just a blocked messages misunderstanding |
