Haylise - She/Her Twilight was slowly creeping away, as the last remnants of the sun slipped below the horizon, and the sounds of crickets and cicadas were overwhelming as she lay away from the rest. The light breeze of the spring time night carried through her fur, and soft voices not loud enough for her ears piqued her interest. Haylise took a look at the four wolves not too far away, the four wolves she had acquainted in the little under a month they had been trapped there. They had all come to a similar conclusion not long after gaining their bearings and shaking off the drowsy and tempting sleep they could feel in their bones. They did not belong here. This was not home. The air held a different feeling, missing the oh so familiar scents, at least to Haylise. She couldn't speak for the others, but there was something telling her they were a long way from all of their homes, lost with the inability to return. There were no familiar breezes, and the lands felt oh so different. Haylise didn't want to accept it, but in the short time they had all been trapped, she knew in her heart that she would never return home. Her pack was too far away, and she had to come to terms with never seeing her sisters' or her parents' faces again. Haylise was grateful to be able to communicate, very little, with the other wolves the humans kept here, the ones who were content with living behind strange holed walls and humans feeding them, the ones who were born here, or taken in as pups or elderly or sick. Those wolves who had grown to love being pampered, to never sink their teeth into prey or feeling the ground as they ran for miles. To them, this was their home. And through their strange and different ways of speaking, Haylise and the four others she had been trapped with discovered tales of a wolf pack far north, farther than even humans dared to go. It was cold, and always snowy, deep in the mountains and was even a dangerous trek. But at the end, the pack would take in any wolf brave enough and strong enough to make it through. They called it the suathadh-grèine pack with their limited means of communication, unfamiliar to Haylise, however she soon learned what it meant in her language; The pack that touches the sun. So, that's what they planned to do. Haylise who was sat away from her now companions, preferring it that way, enjoying a few moments of peace before their plan would be in motion. They decided to make their escape the night of the new moon, when the light would be dim, too dark for the humans as they came to find. There was a hole dug under the far end of their enclosure, far and hidden from the humans eyes, and covered with foliage for extra protection. Haylise closed her eyes, placing her head down, knowing it'd be a few more hours before they were sure the humans were asleep. The sky was still slightly purple after all. |

Restlessly, his paws scraped the earth in his endless trek back and forth between the trees of their imprisonment. Fayvel had not adjusted well to his new surroundings, much like the other four wolves. Though every step he took was fueled by rage, burning hot and traveling up his limbs and sizzling out into an anxiety that left his fur bristled and eyes weary. Beneath the aggressive and confident manner in which he carried himself, and the level tone of his rumbling voice, he was afraid. Terrified. The constant lingering human scent burned his nose and overwhelmed his mind with horrific memories. Humans were what he smelled when finding his father's body, and where his brother thrashed helplessly beside the human's hard path in the forest. Human scent engulfed him when his vision had been swallowed in black and sudden exhaustion chased the fight from his body. Now human scent was everywhere. Disgusting and embedded into the earth, tormenting him. Fayvel had found it difficult to sleep before he was taken, but now the concept escaped him entirely. He feared of waking up in a strange place all over again, feared the nightmares that plagued his dreams, and feared perhaps the next time he fell asleep that he wouldn't wake up at all. The first few days upon the wolves' arrival, he'd taken it upon himself to be on constant patrol and keep watch. This place was not safe, everything about it was different and wrong. From the color of the grass, to the way the trees looked, and how everything smelled. It'd felt like he was rediscovering the world for the first time, barely a pup stumbling out of the den on clumsy paws to witness the bright world he'd been kept in the dark from. But this place was darker than any den. The shiny walls full of holes that kept them from going anywhere were the worst of it. It looked strange and unnatural, emitting a sense of danger. Up until all five of them had decided to dig beneath it, Fayvel did his best to keep away. The walls stopped them from running and stretching their legs and made him feel trapped. Sometimes it felt like it was closing in and suffocating him. Now he returned to where the other four wolves lingered. They'd be trying to leave soon, and Fayvel hoped their plan worked because he wasn't sure how much longer he could stand to live like this. Silently picking his way through the foliage, he found a spot amongst the roots of a tree to circle and settle down in. By default, his ears perked and twitched in every which way, listening. Orange eyes searched the shadows of the trees and his body tensed, ready to spring to his paws at the first sign of danger. And he awaited the darkest hours of the night. |

Cypress - She/herThis isn't our home. It was those exact words that she'd heard over and over while spending her time behind the cold tendrils that separated them from the rest of the world. They were correct...somewhat. No, this strange prison certainly wasn't home, but nor was the pack they seemed to dream of reaching, those that embraced the sun and clouds. It was the elders who always told her that home was where the heart was, that it didn't matter where your paws carried you so long as you were surrounded by those you loved. But no matter where she went, no matter what she did...nothing could bring her family back. There was no going home. She lay there silently with her forelegs neatly crossed, her triangular ears tuned to the sound of hushed whispers and the relentless pacing of another. While she spoke to none of them, she kept herself in their presence because companionship was something she'd gone without for the past year. There was certainly a storm of various emotions oozing from her new companions: excitement, doubt, fear, agitation, curiosity...but, other than the acquisition of some strangers and the addition of a metallic prison, none of this was particularly new to Cypress. For the past year, everything had been new to her: different prey, different terrain, different smells...moon after moon, she'd been on the move, on the run. There'd been no opportunity to settle, because there was no knowing if she could ever be safe. She'd become well-adapted to the relentless change, even if she always did have to look over her shoulder to ensure her own safety. Put simply...Cypress was confident. They seemed to be doing everything correct so far, anyways (according to her tactician instincts, of course). They'd picked the most suiting eve to carry out their plan, and had already diligently dug out their exit. It was only a matter of waiting now, and praying that the pampered baboons that so merrily called the prison their "home" (but if that was what they considered family, then to each their own) didn't rat them out by raising the alarm. It was cynical of her to not trust them, but she'd been cheated once, and she wouldn't be cheated again. The same could be said about her new "friends". If push came to shove, she'd have to choose herself. She couldn't let the memories of her fallen loved ones be consumed by the void of death...even if she was desperate for companionship again. But what mattered now was breaking free. While it was better to be (hopefully) countless miles away from Frigus, she had no interest in being some stinky human's little source of entertainment. |

Aderyn - They/Them - '' The Protector "a grey, brown, and black Grey wolf with amber eyes and a flopped left ear, nonbinary A well-beaten track of dirt rested behind the tall wolf, filled with light pawsteps and some blood. Their paws had been slighted down and were carmine with soreness, and yet They solemn rested. Aderyn had beaten down this ring around the perimeter of the strange place himself, and yet, it seemed pointless now that they were supposed to leave, or, hopefully. With a deep sigh from within, they drew away from the barren path, into a thin patch of trees, the scent of pine entering theur nostrils, and yet they hated it, hated it with every fiber in their pristine coat. Human drenched the ground with their disgusting stench from when they had come in to do various tasks, everytime the five had fled to the edge of the enclosure, it seemed. Everything had a shedule, something the wolf disliked too much. Aderyn was scrappy and rag-tag, and went with the flow, the only shedule they ever knew was when they watched the hunts of their parents with their siblings, and after, they would clean themselves and sing to the stars, drinking in the air to try and howl the longest. An audible growl cascaded through the wolf as they saw a flash of red and tan, other wolves from another prison cell. Unlike the others, they had not spoken a word to them, and snarled and snapped, and hurled their body against the bars to ward them off, and with their size, it usually worked. Even though this was nothing close to a territory, and they would not defend it like it was, they protected them. The other four they had met, and spoke avidly to. Apparently, they would be their new pack, their new family. With another snarl, the frame of red slunk away and Aderyn continued, subtle limp in their steps. They stepped into a ditch that had filled with still water, a moment of soothe enveloping them as their paws found the comfortable ground, and it went away too quickly as they steppd out. The iron canine plod on, cringing at the stench of more human, and everything artificial. With another hum, the trees sparsed even more as they found the figures they had been aquainted with. Aderyn's gaze turned to a black male by the name of Fayvel, who had rested among the roots. Another creature who had guarded the perimiters of the prison like the best of guards, with eyes the color of the setting sun. As they strode past Fayvel, they murmured a greeting with a dip of their head. Aderyn shamelessly thought of themself as superior to all of them, but why share that aloud? they were an overconfident wolf, with a strive many others possessed: an urge to excel and climb in the hierarchy of a pack, or start their own. Aderyn wanted to be alpha, but their pursuits would be stopped when, if they found suathadh-grèine, or, in their language, The pack that touches the sun. The pack ho lived where there was always snow and pine trees for miles. The pack who lived untouched by mankind, the pack who was free. Though plans to be inevitably halted, they could lead their group they currently resided with, yes? Then, they came to halt near an odd figure, a frame similar to Fayvel's. Cypress, she called herself, was a chocolatey black woman with eyes that rivaled the radiancy of the sun. She was a planner, a strategist. Witha low huff, Aderyn spoke. " Evening, Cypress. " Aderyn slid into a lay a wolf-length away. " Everything's ready, yes? " He asked, rumble of worry in his vox. |

Exoral, He/They.Exoral huffed in the corner, laying his head to the dry ground. He was honestly just.. so bored. There was nothing to do in this prisoned area. No snow, No icy cold water to rest in. No seal pups to munch down on. It was true hell! Well, at least in their words. He looked to the soft trees, which was quite a rare sight to see back home. They wondered what the other four felt. He turned his attention to the others for a second, then laid his head back down. He didn't like this place one bit. The lights kept beaming down to his fur, the ground was incredibly dry and his pawpads ached whenever he pressed them down to the ground. In his thoughts, they tapped the ground with his paws and sighed, and stood to inspect the walls. Was there any certain area he could break through? After around 10 seconds he gave up, and sat down, glaring at the ground. and silently thought to himself for a bit. There has to be a way out. There always is! It would be stupid to give up now, if there's a way in, there's a way out. After all, that's what Ma always told him! He smiled to himself, and contently lifted his head up, going back to check the walls for any loose points he could headbutt or claw through. |

Haylise - She/Her The sweet temptation of sleep soon befell her, as part of her knew she should try to stay awake to be prepared to leave, but the heavy feeling on her eyes pulled her in deeper. A a warm feeling dancing around her, seeping into her skin and bones. It had taken Haylise a while to be used to sharing a sleeping space with others. Though she didn't sleep entirely isolated back home, here where she was trapped, she was simply /too/ close to the others. Even when she had sick of injured that needed to rest, they'd stay in a den adjacent to hers, leaving her to sleep in peace within her own, quiet den. But here, they were too close. As she drifted further, a quick nap turning into something more, visions began to light up in her mind. Running through a forest with a shadow looking overhead. It felt like no matter how hard it how fast she ran, it was like wading through thick mud. The creature above seemed to have no problems reaching her. And when it did, everything disappeared within an instant. Cold nothingness surrounded her, a swirling ice storm cutting into her skin, as she now struggled to keep her paws planted. She couldn't see anything, her vision blurry, and everything was white. Then she saw it, a break in the storm, and a figure just barely standing out against the snowy abyss. Closer, she got, the storm letting up as she did. The figure became more apparent as she could see, and it was only when she stood in front of them, almost nose to nose, she could see it. It was her. A perfect reflection, and Haylise stood frozen staring at herself. It was silent, the storm could not be heard as she stared. "You're abandoning them." The voice was skewed, sounded nothing like her, but Haylise knew this was her reflected self speaking. "Abandoning who?" She replied, confused, everything was confusing. "Them." The storm picked up again, and Haylise considered for a moment. Was it the four others she was trapped with? "No, no I'm not. I'm leaving with them. We're traveling together." She said, confusion and defense in her voice. They had all been planning for some time, a plan to leave together, Haylise wasn't going to break out and leave them high and dry. She liked independence and solitude, not isolation. "Not them." This time it struck her, the reflection soon turned into her mother, her father, Sarisa, Kenyse. Them. Haylise felt herself slipping, like the ground was opening up and pulling herself down. By leaving to this new pack, making it her new home, she was abandoning them. --- Outside of her head, where her body lay asleep. It was not still. Twitching with every run, jerking as she slipped further, whining and breathless barks falling from her mouth. She was stuck in her head and her nightmare, and the night drew further to their departure time. |

Cypress - She/herWhile poised and emitting an overall demeanor of collectedness, her ears nonetheless swiveled in the direction of every noise her current gaggle of strangers made. From pacing to distant snarling and snapping, Cypress took in every bit of her surroundings. It baffled her that the minds of others might not be constantly running with plots and plans, that they might preoccupy themselves with more material things like when dinner would be, or what those they'd been estranged from might be doing. Granted, her family had perished. Indeed, Cypress thought of them often, but now was not the time to think of them. But how could the others not constantly assess their surroundings and think of what they could use to their own advantage? One of the younger wolves, the one with the damaged ear, seemed to be making their approach again. How they paced the perimeter and bickered with the neighbors...one might say it was within wolfkind's instincts to be territorial, but Cypress believed that it was better to build bridges, rather than burn them. The last thing they wanted now was for a neighboring group to spoil their plans. Yet, she was also one to long for the concept of companionship after her large family had been torn away from her. Driving others away right now seemed outrageous to her- even if she wasn't a huge fan of idle chit-chat. "Greetings, Aderyn." The dusky wolf greeted in a voice like silk. Hmm...even if a little temperamental with the other residents, Aderyn could still prove...useful. Of course, Cypress wished to keep the others near in order to fill that internal void she'd suffered with for so many moons, yet, she'd exploit them if necessary. Their energy and tendency to aggressively engage with the others could be used as a distraction in the event that the humans were alerted. It'd be a shame to have to abandon Adreyn, but getting four out was better than them all remaining trapped. "You needn't ruffle your fur, for everything is ready and in its place. We need only wait on the moon, and pray that our neighbors can mind their own business. Even if they're outside of our control...I've made preparations. It'll be like water on a duck's back." Granted, she already had other countermeasures in place. She'd been plotting all evening, hence her failure to get a wink of sleep (besides, she didn't want to feel groggy during the escape). Hell, she'd been planning things before the sun even kissed the horizon. During dinner, she'd buried away a good chunk of meat to use as a tool for diversion in case the two-legged ones were alerted to a disturbance. Perhaps stuffing the meat through the barrier would be enough to cause a little skirmish in another pen, and thus draw the attention of man elsewhere... The strategist furrowed her brow at the sound of sleep-talk, finding the healer fidgeting some distance away. It was better to maintain the peace of silence for now, in hopes of lulling their neighbors to sleep as well. If they were resting, they could not worm their way into their plans. Cypress quietly excused herself from Aderyn before slinking over to where Haylise slept, seemingly trapped in a nightmare. She knew better than to prod a sleeping wolf with her own nose- Spruce had nearly bitten hers off after she woke him from a horrible nightmare. The shrewd female glanced around, recalling a sharp-smelling plant nearby: wild spearmint. Perhaps placing that in front of the healer's nose would be enough to pull her from her nightly terrors... Upon spotting the familiar plant, Cypress briskly plucked a few smelly stems before dropping them before the healer's nose. Silence was key to their plan, yes, but Cypress also pitied Haylise. She could sympathize with being forced into a brutal nightmare. She hoped someone would try to wake her all the same, but for over a year, nobody would come to help her. She'd been all alone, after all. Nothing but the bitterness of loss and the desire for revenge to keep her company. |

His only acknowledgment of Aderyn's greeting had been the slightest twitch of his ear. He hadn't spoken directly to the younger wolf in their time here, but it was apparent the two shared similar motivations when it came to their desire to protect. Similarities Fayvel was sure would lead to them butting heads and clashing over ideas. Aderyn was a bit bigger than himself, but so much younger. Fayvel didn't know the wolf well enough yet to decide for himself if their will to lead was simply a thirst for power and control, or a genuine want for this small group to survive and overcome their shared struggle and circumstance. Depending on which of those motivations Aderyn was after, would make that wolf and Fayvel very different. Now all around him, the strangers seemed to be stirring as time for their escape drew near. Not too far away, he observed Aderyn and Cypress conversing until a slight rustle in the grass pulled his attention toward the twitching body of the healer, Haylise. The female lay disturbed in her sleep. Fayvel briefly wondered what sort of torment Haylise must be enduring in the depths of her own mind to cause such a reaction in the waking world. He must look like that when he slept too. Rising to his paws, he took to the same action the dark lanky she-wolf had in checking to see if the tan and white she-wolf was alright. He quietly approached them but kept a good distance between himself and the sleeping wolf. He thought the way Cypress attempted to wake Haylise was clever, but only offered her a concerned glance. |
