Community Update #116

Posted 2023-11-04 12:33:34 (edited)
Hello Abbey,
Thank you so much for taking a moment to reply! Please allow me to voice my response as respectfully as I can. :)
- Pun or not pun, users are often told not to compare the two sisters. And frankly, wolvden is not getting a share, it feels like we are getting scraps… I know you are an indie company, and we absolutely love the idea's you put into both Lioden and Wolvden. We know how grand Lioden is but we like wolves and hence we want the same type of love here.
- We are frequently told not to compare, yet we don't quite understand why you want to make wolvden a Lioden twin (in cases like putting in Karma despite player heavy opposition). At the end of the day we know it is your choice and your say. But it does sting.
- Lioden has been around for way longer, true. But wouldn't the experience of running Lioden for 10 years roll over here? So many elements are so similar. Even if you don't add new features, why not just fix the small pressing issues that have accumulated over time? The players would be happy with a little bit easier time going around without missing features.
- Maybe your hope was to attract artists to Lioden so that Xylax could give this game more attention – IF that is the case, why not disclose that right away? This promotion of another game leaves a lot more questions than answers.
- Which leads me to the biggest pressing issue of player to developer communication – I remember when I joined Lioden years ago, we would hear from the developers regularly, and you all were so nice, so warm, I felt your love to your work. And I loved your work and your art and effort along with you. But this game seems so cold and abandoned. Many are asking (Not demanding, but asking) for some sort of communication with all of you. I understand life comes first, children, jobs, and so forth. But… why?
- Lastly, I know there are a lot of people defending Wolvden – and I 100% want to be one of those people. But I went through at least 3 months of comparison between Wolvden and Lioden to prove that the players are not "hallucinating" or "ungrateful". We all want to spend money because your guys work is GENIUS. Have your own pack, pretty wolves, and everything? LOVE. Want to give you money to support this even more. Merch? You got it. Ideas? You got it. Endless Grove spending? You got it. But why IF it is going to lioden. And why if we are having the issues I'm attaching in the image below.

Disclaimer: Again, please don't take this as an attack but more as what reality really is. We love this game but….

It's sad that players have to have a disclaimer of "no hate/I don't mean to sound harsh" to avoid lash back. Since a lot of your mods are also very....trigger happy with getting people into trouble (that's another conversation for another day). We should be able to voice our concerns without worrying about a warning. I digress.

I do appreciate the reply. But you need to be transparent  - we wouldn't have known that Katze was worried about workload if you didn't say anything when people called you out. Again.....just hire more artists - there are plenty of people who can get super close to the style (the OLD style, not the new one used for the puppysitting and socializing pictures; it's cute but it's not WD. Sorry.) I'm not sure if you guys are hearing us totally. Yes, LD is the sister site but WD shouldn't have so many little things that are broken, bad or downright awful. Like the lag. The lag should have been fixed months ago. If art is getting too much, hire more artists. IDK if it's more money - you're a company. There are players who buy hundreds of dollars for GC. I can't in good conscious spend on this website anymore until things change.

We love this site!! I know I do. It's a source of comfort (when it's working) and I adore wolves. I tried LD but it's too daunting for me but if WD continues down this path of the forgotten 'sister' then I'll just move over to LD. But I guess that's maybe what you guys want, lol?

Edit: Justice for Cian and Jamine. The true kings.

Not to swing my bat at the hornet's nest, but I think y'all are being pretty unreasonable. It's a small indie dev team that's splitting their time between two very popular websites, and hiring another artist to lighten the load is only going to help wolvden. If anything, them hiring a new artist to focus on Lioden means they'll be able to focus more on wolvden. They didn't need to say that outright it's.... pretty obvious when you think for more than two minutes about how teams work.

Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but frankly I really really don't want wolvden to become as bloated as Lioden. I don't want a new event every month, and I don't want them churning out a million new features and bases and markings every week.  I really couldn't stand how Much lioden was. It was exhausting.

However I do think the frustration regarding bug fixes is completely founded. That needs to be prioritized, but it's not the artists who are dealing with that. Completely separate issue there.

Edit: Also, just a reminder that wolvden is completely free to play. Let's not act like they're a huge company that's rolling in enough cash to hire as many people as they want. I think we need to be reasonable about our expectations.

We're obviously not just talking about the art. And a lot of us know how teams work. You're missing the point, I think.

I've said my piece - I'm not here to argue. I've just seen too many pet sites turn into toxic cesspools when people start setting their expectations unreasonably high.

Ghost, totally agree about Lioden being WAY too bloated and overwhelming. I (personally) am advocating for fixes to existing systems/features more so than new events, new items and that kind of thing.

@Ghost

I will comment here for the last time. My questions are directed towards the developers. I/we have the right to ask developers questions in respectful ways. My direction (again) is mainly to them, but I will address you only once because I do not want to start a player to player argument.

You cannot say "Swing your bat at the hornets" while calling everything everyone said as unreasonable. If you are happy with the game, say it from YOUR own opinion but please don't degrade others opinions because of it.

It's honestly ok if wolvden doesn't have alot of new stuff being pumped in. If you read what was being asked, maybe you would see that everything is not "rose colored" like your "rose colored glasses" show the wolvden life to be. If you see this as a happy place, I am totally happy for you, because this is what wolvden should be The chart was a comparison of seeing where the attention and time is going, not a request for more features. But then what if some people want 20 different types of grass, what's really wrong with that?

I would like to address your "Obvious" statement. If we are to throw around "Duh, its obvious" - in my opinion maybe you are trying to get in the favors of the creators in order for them to hire you as a representative? Or maybe you are already a mod - I dont know, none of my business.  But I might be wrong right? So that means it is not obvious. And hence without the Developers communication - nothing is obvious. I can go on with this argument but I genuinely do not want to raise these concerns where it is not appropriate to. If something isn't working, we would like communication, why? It's been quiet for so long...

To conclude - please reread what prior players have stated - there is love for the game. Again, we care for it. We want to see it thrive. If you are happy with the way it is, well then just uhm... carry on...? Again, please take this as a grain of salt, no harm :)

@mercurie - Big agree! I personally would really love for fixes to be prioritized over new features and events. I know groups have been a huge source of frustration, for example, and I'd rather we have that sorted before we get the (controversial) Karma system.

@ R.I.Peace - Very weird for you to say I'm a mod plant or want to get hired by the team (?????) because I disagreed with you. Don't assume things about me. I'm allowed to say my opinion just as you are.

First of all, thank you so much for your reply and secondly,  with all the respect towards the team,  I can understand they are a small team doing hard work ...but the more I see the work of LD vs WD and their recent updates I cannot help but to think something's is wrong. I'd love to use the idea that LD is older than WD, but the fact they keep doing more things over there than in here is too transparent.

I love this game and is a well done game just as LD , we aren't bashing  or attacking about that( we arent attacking the team at all), the artist is doing a wonderful job with his arts and so the team.

But  what is not right to me and i believe for many others is that it hurts to see many pay to "support this plataform" only to see it mainly goes to LD and not WD.

I do hope the game developers take in consideration what they are doing with this platform...I am waiting so badly to see a big or small add-on that will make us leap with joy as much as it happened in the Valentine days and with lunar event. This game NEEDS attention and I believe is what we want, nothing more than for the team to also take care more of this platform rather than use it as a gold mine to feed one that has already enough to begin with in my deep opinion.

Also, the lag is a major problem tbh too.

Again, this is not an attack , but more to create awareness on how we feel.
