So I had most of the map discovered till I switched leads and now only Taiga and Coniferous Forest is available to me. Will this happen everytime I switch leads?

Yes. Whenever you switch leads, your map resets to just your home biome and the two closest to it. It helps to have experienced scouts in your pack when you switch leads so you can scout your whole map more quickly.
