It was double, a layer with the flaps and one below with pictures and of course they had to match perfectly or it would not work. The measuring and cutting was complicated for a child and the whole thing took at least a couple of days. The building part my mum and I did together, and the same with decorating the outside (foil for the windows, cottonwool for the snow on the roof and base, felt-tips for tiles, bricks and whatever else I felt like adding). it was a special time spent together, doing something creative and fun, with no stress and just jokes and helping each other. The pictures inside I searched for by myself so they would be a surprise. I could have drawn them but flicking through magazines looking for Christmas things which where pretty, different from one another and the right size was part of the fun and I really felt happy when I found something special. Years later I did the same with my son, except this time the calendars had all sorts of shapes: sometimes a house but we also di a snowman, a sledge, and once Pikachu with a sack on his back and Santa's hat on his head! Here's a Kirby one on the right. That year we also built a fake chimney using cardboard boxes :) |

then we all find a place for it in our living room and all decorate it together while listening to Christmas music, eating Carmel popcorn and drinking hot cocoa it is really special to all of us and usually at the end of the day we will watch our first Christmas movie which is either the Grinch or Elf. Then during December we decorate the inside of our house with little glass elf villages, reindeer, Stockings, wreaths and many other christmasy things. We schedule a lot of bake days with my grandma and cousins while watching movies. And on like the 15 or 20 we have a Christmas party at a very close family friends house we call ourselves family because we are so close! we have talent shows, baking contests and fun games and then we have a big sleepover in their living room But not before we watch Christmas movies!! And on Christmas Eve our grandma gets us Christmas pj's and we all settle on the couch where either my Uncle or Dad read the night before Christmas then head off to bed to get some sleep but me and my sisters stay up talking because we are so excited Β Β On Christmas we all line up on the stairs either youngest to oldest or oldest to youngest and walk through the huge curtain that blocks our view from the presents (we are not allowed to look at all the presents until Christmas day so its always a huge suprise how many gifts there are!) then we all sit in a circle and pass out presents! the youngest always starts first and usually opening presents and stockings take all day because we like to take our time. there is a lot more we do but that is a short summary!! |
