The Too Many Puppies Problem
Posted 2020-11-03 21:11:38
Update: I learned a valuable lesson and that is that territory slots are E X P E N S I V E. Or, they start getting expensive real quick at the very least. I have 10 slots now which should be enough for the number of puppies I'm planning on keeping, but OOF...I buried a chunk of my SC to save but after buying 4 slots I am basically broke now lol |

I’ve been mostly restrained about puppies, but have no self control for NBW. I’m a simple woman - I see a pretty wolf, I want the pretty wolf. |

I'm glad you posted this; I take it as a nice warning. I just joined a day or so ago, and already struggle with 2 pups. I can't imagine dealing with so many at once and having sitters for em all to guarantee survival. By golly, I better get ready. I'm gonna keep mainly males so I don't get tempted, lol. |

I consider myself lucky in that I haven't lost any pups yet (crossing my fingers this holds true so long as I don't try to breed more pups than my pupsitters can handle), but I will say that once you've played for a week or so it does get easier. Just make sure you have a good stockpile of food/amusement items and from there you can sort of feel out how many wolves you'll be most comfortable keeping track of in the long term. |

To avoid this problem I decided to save up for a nice breeding male first. I got him as a puppy so I had plenty time to save up and buy more slots, nesting materials, etc. Then I started buying puppies- Now I'm broke, I don't have enough slots, I have several more coming in from impulse-auctions, and they're all aging up in a few days :) |

I didn't realize breeding males were so expensive, so I instantly set my lead wolf to my stud after the tutorial. Whoops. Guess I'm going to have to save up before anything improves. |

I spent a lot of time with 10 adult slots and 20+ puppies! Not even ones I bred, just ones I bought because they were really pretty and I wanted to keep them. Luckily puppies grow up really slowly, so by the time they've started growing up, it was 2 weeks later and I had enough slots for them. |

I got 17 puppies now, would’ve had 19. There’s also one wolf still pregnant, so this isn’t good at all for me. I’m gonna have to choose which pups to give protection to now.. I’m gonna have to start befriending more male wolves, or this will happen again. |

A part of me hates that the pups take so long to grow up but at the same time thank the stars they take so long to grow up! I joined when it opened, made a pertty male and female and start this little adventure. I have... 8/19 adults and 13 pups with more on the way. I have been soooo lucky to not have any problems. I had one of my NBW hunter have some pups mostly to help fill in pack role slots... And she surprised me with 5 pups. Then I noticed my Herblist was really rocking the stats... One gender switch later I got 5 more pups. I also bought one with a Howlet base to try and get perttier Howlets later when my Herblist had a Howlet base pup... Cool cool. And since I have been able to keep 13 pups alive with litterally no problems Im going to see if I can keep a winter litter alive. The wolf is nest, I got another pupsitter (which brings me up to 3). Gave the 100% (if not almost 100%) chance pups to the new pupsitter so my good one can keep an eye out on this higher risk litter. In the mean time ill do the same as always. Hunt/Explore/Make Medicine and sell off any extras I have to SC for slots |
