Remove or change the word "enemy" in battle encounters

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with something like this being implemented! |

No support There are green, blue and neon red wolves, you can breed wolves with merle markings, you can breed merle/merle without causing deafness, your wolf can have purple eyes. realism isn't exactly anything to even begin making design decisions based on unless you want all of those things removed, and while they may not be enemies in your lore, they may be in another's, making this a personal lore based nitpick. |

Seems very low priority but it does make sense to me. It never bothered me before but now it will, forever, until it is changed lol. |

No support. I don't fully understand how calling certain NPCs enemies breaks immersion, in my packs lore, they do have certain enemies no to mention I find it reasonable to label a threat as an enemy. I wouldn't care if the wordage were to change but it really doesn't seem necessary. To me, it doesn't take away from the immersion of the game and call them competitors or whatever but they're still going to be NPCs you either attack or flee from. Maybe exchange it for more flavor text and this could add some variety to encounters but I don't think anything would be improved with a change and Wolvden wouldn't become more or less realistic because of it. So even if real wolves don't have enemies I think we are far past the point of trying to align Wolvden perfectly with real life. Your interpretation is your own but I don't think it's right to claim that the use of the word enemy is detrimental to the immersion and RP aspects of the game. The way we RP here is a personal experience so maybe you don't think of the NPCs here as enemies but not only is that an individual sentiment but it's not fair to the people who do see enemies as a part of their immersion in this game. |

Support, but not something I see necessary, tho I enjoy the discussion. Even if lore wise some packs have enemies, all these animals are just competing for the same things as you and you happened to.bump into them at an unfortunate time. I dont think most view you as enemies |

While I wouldn't really care either way, this suggestion definitely seems very nitpicky to me. Enemy is a really basic word for a really basic type of encounter that triggers a really basic outcome. You fight the enemy, or you leave it. Also, enemies are shown as aggressive already. They're snarling, roaring, barking, taking swipes at you—the encounter even says "oh no!" as if you're being attacked. It makes no sense to change such a minor detail when they are, in fact, enemies. |

I'd support a change in terminology, it could be something like "Oh no! A hostile level X <insert mob name>!" for predators, and maybe something like "Oh! A defensive/an aggressive level X <insert mob name>!" for prey animals. Heck, you could even say leave it as 'defensive' for anything, since even the other predators can be considered neutral and not necessarily hostile right away thanks to the fact that we can just move on without having to fight. |

When looking up the definition of an enemy you get this "One who feels hatred toward, intends injury to, or opposes another; a foe." By all means anything that is trying to attack your wolf with the intention of harming you or killing you is an enemy, whether it'd be trying to eliminate competition for food, or protecting any nearby young you might have stumbled too close to. Even your wolf can be considered an enemy to prey animals because the intent is to harm and kill them for the purpose of food and survival. It may not be a personal vendetta against deer or anything, but by definition the intent makes you their enemy. Sure in real life animals may not feel a hatred towards other animals, and it may never be personal, but competition still leads to intended harm of others in the wild. Even a mother bear fending off a male trying to kill and/or eat her cubs is still technically her fighting off an enemy, even if they are in the same species. The word is used in a very broad and loose way to describe more than human warfare, not to mention these wolves we play as are sentient, we give them human attributes, thoughts, and feelings. So with everything in consideration, the term enemy used while in explore not only fits with the personification we give these animals, but in terms of its very definition it is being used properly. No support. |
