Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

I think this is a great idea to be honest. I hate that male wolves have almost no value what so ever unless they are good enough to become future Studs. As it is now I purposely made my herbalist/hunters male just so I could keep some of my males. But space wise, without them having functions, they are not worth keeping, which on the other end of that, no one wants to buy them. So by doing this, I think it allows a use for the males, but also would give you a higher chance of selling male pups in the market [ For those worried about loosing money on studs, you would be making money on higher chances of selling male pups. ^^ To add to that, I know I for one would still use studs outside my pack as well to bring in fresh blood now and then. ] |

Raise your hand if you've already posted your thoughts on the other threads and feel like a broken record lol. Anyway, what I think about some of the arguments: Wolves don't work like harems, therefore the realism argument doesn't make much sense; the studding system isn't going to tank as much as people are claiming it will; mass breeding isn't going to be as much a problem if there are fewer females and more males in each pack. Do the math there; pack with 10 females = 50 puppies, pack with 5 males + 5 females = 25 puppies. (Note that overbreeding is going to happen no matter what restrictions the game has. Despite what people say, the game is ABOUT breeding wolves. For goodness sake, we get a whopping FIVE pup slots for each adult! That's a big aspect of the game and you can't deny that.) Males are genetically pointless to keep around, and I for one already hate seeing male pups born. They're a waste of den space and I fully intend to kick them out as soon as possible. I hated that attitude on LD, but unfortunately, it has to be adopted here as well to play efficiently. The best option in my opinion is the cooldown for males. I'm all for that idea - that way, they can breed as much as females within the pack, no more, no less. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. So if it wasn't obvious, I'm completely, wholly supporting this. #LetAllMalesBreed |

Maybe (to prevent mass breeding) if you breed your males you have to pay a fee. This would make it monetarily similar to studding, and help limit litters. |

@Laika but the the fact that males would be breedable and thus more desirable already reduces mass breeding, less females in a pack means less litters born to that pack. People already have 90% females and get rid of or sell male pups because genetically they are useless- if they became usefull then more pack space would be dedicated to males |

I honestly agree to this so much! I don't keep males! And the male pups that I am keeping are all being changed to females, because I feel like keeping around males is just generally pretty worthless to my pack. |

I support this suggestion. As much as I want to get into this site and enjoy it and create lore, I'm finding it hard to do so because the current breeding situation is so restrictive. As others have mentioned, it's also making having more than one male wolf in the pack kind of pointless because they can't pass on any stats and I'm finding it hard to sacrifice the den space, especially when SC is hard to come by in order to expand. We're going to end up with a huge male to female imbalance on this site -- if we haven't already -- because people will be chasing all their male pups or changing their genders. |

read about halfway through this thread, deciding to post my thoughts now before i lose them so. initially i was against the idea of having multiple breeding males in the pack. the devs had already made their decision on the matter, and if it would help prevent the pup market from, well, being exactly like the lioden one, then i was all for it. but ive been trying to keep an open mind about this for my play style, multiple breeding males would make no difference to me either way. in my pack, only the lead and herbalist will be a mated pair, and no other wolves are allowed to have pups. if they want to, they would need to leave and establish territory elsewhere. but... just because it wouldnt change my play style, doesnt mean it wouldnt be helpful to other people everyone elses posts ive read so far have a good point: having multiple breeding males WOULDNT increase the amount of pups. people still have the same amount of wolves. more breeding males in the pack mean less breeding females, and less pups overall some ideas for some restrictions for non-stud breeding males: one breeding male per full hunting party. someone else mentioned that wolf packs will have multiple litters based on food availability. if a pack has the territory and the means to support multiple hunting parties, then theyd have the means to support extra litters (in theory, at least. it still depends on the player to actually take care of their wolves) another restriction idea, not just toward breeding males but it might help: make pup deaths more common the more adults you have in your pack. in a small pack with just 5 or 6 wolves, it should be easier to look after a few pups. but if the pack is huge, with 10, 20, 30 wolves? that makes it easy for pups to wander off unseen. admittedly this idea isnt the best one but if the pup market IS the real concern, then this would help with that everyone else has brought this up: breeding cooldown. it exists in the coding for every single wolf already regardless of if they can have babies or not. just activate it for males and that already severely limits how many extra litters you can have. some ppl have also mentioned making it seasonal which would also work p well with the food availability restriction. maybe you need to have x amount of wolves fed and played to 100% for x days in a row before theyll be like "ok yeah im down to breed, its probably safe" another point i want to bring up: the admins remind us a fair amount that, while lioden and wolvden are sister sites, they are not the same. the breeding male restriction is definitely a remnant of lioden and while it made sense there for the way prides work, it makes zero sense in the context of wolf packs tl;dr: i was on the fence about it but i thought about it some and yeah! no reason not to. make multiple males breedable within packs. theres limitations you can place, itll most likely positively affect the pup market, and itll be just one more thing to set it apart from lioden |

Yes, the wolvden male value is more or less the same as liodens male value (or will be) |

I'm 100% in support of this. I've always hated being limited to one breeding male within my pack, and it hurts to call my males "useless" but, essentially, they ARE 3: |

Coming back to show my 100% support from the old thread. Not much I can add that hasn't been said already! |
